The only way to change them by more than 1 or 2 points is to use a cheating program such as Shadowkeeper.
Instructions on how to get/use it are here.

HOWEVER- I would *not* recomend using this program unless you absolutely need to. ESPECIALLY if this is your first run through the game- it has a small chance of ruining your gaming experience.

actually, I hate to conterdict you old cahp, but your wrong. there are 'certain' tomes scatered around BG1, and if you happened to import them into bg2... these tome raise relevent stats. I found by the end of Bg1, Calaethis's stats were higher then they had any right to be, and by the end of BG2, after 'hell', they were even higher! see it pays to go though the entire seris. using shadow keep is ok I suppose, for your 3rd or 4th game, if only to see what its like to be able to play as a 'god'.

Yah, but as you said, they are in BG1. So unless he makes a Thief character in BG1, then import and convert it into an Assassin, it has no relevance.

Remember, he is asking whether it is possible to raise the stats in BG2. Tomes are not one of the valid options.

I am sure there is an add on called the bonus merchants stuff that you can get from Sorcerers Place, you can put them in your override folder and it adds one merchant in The copper coronet and one in the Adventurer's Mart.

One of those sells these tomes that boost your stats.

Try here http://www.sorcerers.net

This is like officialish because there was a special bonus BGII SoA CD edition that some people were able to buy that actually installed this stuff, but it was limited edition, so Sorcerers Place just made it available for everyone.

That is how I got mine.

You can Clua Console these books in as well if you want. The Ironworks should have a list of the items on its BG1 page, BG1 stuff CLUAs in to BGII.

But I advise you not to go overboard as it ruins the game. One or two books at the most.

Or you could just do it the honest way, restart and reroll for ever until you get the stats you want.

I cheated with my second game and gave up over half way and started again without any cheats whatsoever and I felt much better doing that.

I'm not fond of the Cleric/Thief combination for 2 reasons.
1) The only weapons you can Backstab with are the Staff and Club. So, if you want to use a Shield, you're stuck with what is probably the worst melee weapon in the game.
2) Cleric/Thieves get a button for Cast Spell, a button for Turn Undead, a button for Stealth, a button for Find Traps, a button for Stealth.....etc. The restult of this is that you can only have 1 Quick Weapon (I think), and your Pick Locks/Pick Traps/Pick Pockets button gets kicked into your Special Abilities button.

Nope. The Bonus Merchants ARE perfectly legitimate, and they DO sell some neat stuff, but you will NEVER be able to BUY anything that will permanently raise your stats. There are ways to boost yourself (or any other party member), but you have to go out and FIGHT your way to them, and they are usually difficult to get to.

There are lots of items to buy that will raise your stats while that item is equipped, but this effect vanishes as soon as you remove the item. Raising your stats to the Dual-Classing requirements in this manner will NOT work. When you Dual-class, the game checks your ACTUAL character stats--not the stats you temporarily have as the result of an item, spell, or potion.
