Wow, Yorick, if my ex-wife could write things like that, maybe things would have worked out better between us. But, I didn't miss any rituals between us, we had too little contact. Certainly, if anything ever happened between Galadria and me, I would miss all of that, the Sundy morning paper-reading and breakfast-making, the frantic struggle to get to work in the morning. Funny, she calls them "traditions," but they mean the same things.
Yeah. Traditions, rituals.

They were the first things I missed. Pet names is another. It doesn't feel right to call anyone else the same pet name.

Anyhow, I'm forging new traditions with my girl. (Who is amazing BTW) Trying not to freak if somethings feels familiar, and focussing on the here and now, what I have, not what I've lost or left behind.

Rokenn, I'm so sorry to hear that brother. Glad the piece helped a bit. Let me know what your friend thinks.

Yorick, your ex-wife is talented, indeed to write that. Good writing evokes emotions with images - something she accomplished well. (You basically said the same thing.)

As every relationship is different, every breakup and healing is different. I have been married 3 times and each was unique from the others. Perhaps it was stages in my life, but what grows from each relationship is almost like a being of its own. Sometimes we miss the "relationship" more than the partner.

I know I am better for knowing the people I did.

Being in a new relationship with memories from an old one can be unsettling, but eventually they fade. Things that once were raw become like a familiar t-shirt, they bring a smile, but the pain is gone. I hope you get to that point soon.
