Should have chained him to a PC and push him down a cliff. I have been affected by too many of those E-mail exploitation virus already! The worst part of is all the mails that infected my laptop were from my acquaintances with somewhat valid subject!

Now that I have been using mailwasher for more then 3 months, I have manage to block off spams and virus ridden mails. I know this is a little out of topic but if you are a Outlook Express user, I would advise you to get mailwasher.

Thanks Paladin, I've not heard of Mailwasher before, have to do a search and check it out. You think it's better than Norton?

ladyzekke,

Mailwasher is a mail filtering program. You run this nice little program before executing OE (outlook Express). Of course you would need to setup you mail account(s) first.

Once executed, the main screen will list down the subjects of your new mails. The usual informations like from, date and time are also shown. Pay special attention to the "from" column because this is where you identify the spammers. If you double click on any of the subject, this program will preview that particular mail without running any scripts or loading any images. Thus, those viruses/worms that exploits the OE mail scripting bugs will not infect your PC in the preview mode (at least none has before...).

You can either choose to delete the junk mails or select the "bounce" option. I don't really know how the "bounce" option works but it is supposed to send an error to your ISP to indicate that you as the receipient is not a valid user and the ISP will send "user not found" error back to the send. This works for most of the spammers and I have noticed that my spam mails has decreased by 60-70%

All the address that you have selected to be bounced will be also be added to the blacklisted list. So, even if the spammers do send you another spam, this program will automatically listed the mails to be "bounce". This is quite a nice little trick!

Additionally, if you are the victims of "friends" that always seemed to have the pleasure of sharing *cool" stuff with you except that the *cool* stuff that they send you is about 500k or more worth of stupid useless programs and mpegs files... use the "delete" option. Mailwasher will then send the command to your ISP to delete those mails (marked for deletion) to be deleted before arriving in your OE inbox.

However, this program is an adware but will not sell your informations to those spammers. if you really like the software, you can send the author some money to get the software registered, which will remove the banner ads. Unregistered version will have all the same functions as the registered version and it will not expires. Therefore it is entirely up to you to register and contribute some money to help the author.

Honestly, this is one of the best mail filter software that I have came accross. thumbs up to the author!

Can I ask why a prosecutor would ask for 240 hours of community service when he could've had up to 4 *years* in prison? He worked in a cpu store, how could he not know how bad a cpu virus could affect other cpu's. It's sad, you catch someone and then they just get to walk away... or end up community service in this case.

Does that mean, Hunter, that if the United States made it only a misdemeanor to defraud or vandalize the property of citizens of other coutries that you would support such a law. It sounds like a great idea. We could all go over to Amsterdam, burn down all the "coffee houses", come home and do 40 hrs. of community service. Maybe we could just go in for some pedestrian mail fraud or crash the computers in the Haigh. I don't think it will actually hurt anyone.
Sarcasm aside, I think that damage done to the international community should have greater reprecussions than that found in a local loop hole.
Your right , we could go and burn Amsterdam to the ground, but then we would have to deal with the laws and penaltys over there. If we just send them a computer virus we have to deal with the laws and penaltys over here.
