Blind-prophet: Thanks for the apology...I would be interested in your views someday on a more appropiate thread so that this one does not go off-topic. I am at least intersted in hearing you out. See ya later.

If they are going to make a movie on horific or great events that happened in the past, they SHOULD make them historicaly accurate. Imagine the poor people who fought in, or lost friends or family in a War, but dont get mentioned in a movie portraying it because of a stuck-up Director.

btw, how do you define historically accurate anyway? just because we dont see other allies doesnt mean the movie is biased

and if your arguement of accurate movie is to consider the friends and families of the soldiers who fought in a war, can you record all the south africans from Black Hawk Down? perhaps you will piss off a few of their families by leaving out some of them. some events are bounded to be left out, while some needed artifical modification, due to the difficulty to portrait long living struggles into a 2 hrs movie. so there you got picture. not a lie

Hollywood gets paid to make entertainment...not to be historians. They find a history that they can make a story out of because they are running outta ideas themselves, I think. They mention that the movie is based on true events, but that word based carries with it the legal protection to not be sued over the misrepresented areas, as they are not actually saying that this is authentic.

Okay people, you have me all wrong. I never intended to 'Bash' America or Hollywood with this thread, I mearly posted it because I thought it was funny how inaccurate movies are even though some are meant to be true stories. So please lighten up.

Lets not forget MIB II which showed the world trade center in it in one scene when the movie clearly states that it takes place in 2002, as well as all of that BS they put into the pearl harbor movie, all the old World war 2 flicks with clint eastwood, and lets not even go near black hawk down, the patriot or the 9/11 movie they'll be making in a few years..

It 90+ minutes of entertainment, that people are willing pay their hard earned money for. Movie goers understand it's for entertainment, and for fun, they're paying for escapism, not a college history course. If anyone has their feelings hurt because not every person, place, or event is mentioned, too bad.
Life's not fair.

I just think its funny how America, 9 times out of 10 is portrayed in movies as the heroes, or THE country or THE power. It doesn't seem to matter if other contries have deserved credit, if America is involved, America will be the heroe and the ones that save the day.

Does it help you any to know that some of the scenes for he Pearl Harbor movie were filmed in the Gulf of Mexico (Off of Padre Island/Corpus Christi) and that they advertised over San Antonio (and other Texas) radio stations for "Asian men ages 18 to 24 who were willing to get a military style haircut to portray Japenese extras"?
Probably not LOL...just thought I would mention it.

Larry makes a great point where movies say they are based on actual stories...never expect much truth out of the story, but do expect the director to put together a movie that sells. That's their business.

If you want truth in movies, look into documentaries.
