When Wife 1.0 crashed on me, I downloaded Girlfriend 8.0 and then upgraded to Wife 2.0. It was really worth it, trust me.

I'm sticking with Wife 1.0. It was a great upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0, and I upgraded 14+ years ago. Now THAT's a good operating system to last 14+ years. The noise created by child and puppy processing took some getting used to, but proved to be a worthwhile function.

No you don't understand... my system won't run the upgrade at all... there is some trouble with "COM port" (on day 2)

Well, my software upgrades took a bit longer and the versions got quite mixed up ... you know, like linux software. Stable and in development . My first upgrade was more than a decade ago, when I upgraded from Girlfriend XX to Wife 1.0 , which got upgraded to 1.5 after a while and then split up into two partitions. The version of wife 1.5 shrank to version 1.0 then. And I had to uninstall it later on because of a sneaky ice-cube virus. The bad part was the Wife 1.0 was installed on boot partition , which took considerable effort to repair, so I could run my Son 1.0 software on second partion of my HD. When that was done, the only software that was readily available were updates of Girlfriend XX.Y. And some patches to One Night Stand 3.4. Now, to run *those* , I had to upgrade my hardware first - to be more resilient to power surges and such . For a while I was stickind to upgrades of Girlfriend software 'till I got a nice deal on a bundled software called Spouse 2.0, which came together with two other heavy-duty pieces of code called Teenagestepdaughter 1.a and 1.b (last two are terrible resource eaters in things like "bandwidth" and "mailboxsize").
And if Spouse 2.0 has developed the affinity to participate in Ironworks forum, then I'm in big trouble right now
