Well we have storms here in melbourne and we are south so I think we are lucky as our storms arent bad enough to really have to turn the computers off....but just incase I do....my husband doesnt which is fine. But I find at the best of times that computers can be a big pain in the butt....cause things real simple things can go wrong and cause so many faults....which can be really annoying:1pissed:....I am sorry to hear about your computer lady and hope its nothing to major.....But we all still plod along......dont we......LOL

Ack! Hope you can get a new one and that's all that's wrong! Of course it happened after the store closed, isn't that how these things work?

Very sorry to read that this has happened to you LadyZ. I will certainly hope with everyone else that this is not something as serious as your MB. I hope you are able to get it resolved tomorrow once the stores open. And I'm also glad that you have that widdle keys too close together laptop to fill-in while you wait

That smell is great isn't it? Happened to me when I connected the power supply the wrong way to my FDD and fried it.

Hope it's just the PSU and nothing more expensive!

My PC IS BACK!!! Yeehawww!!!! It was the power supply. Got it replaced and all is working well now! Haven't tried to load NWNs yet, but I'm sure it will work fine since everything else is working OK. Now instead of that burning smell I have this acrid "new power supply" smell LOL! Kinda like when you get a new monitor, it smells for a month or so (or is it just me LOL)! Ahhhh, so nice to have my nice big monitor back, that laptop was not only difficult to type on, but the screen was smaller and so were all the text and icons, even the colors of different forums was off. Oh, and the laptop's mouse had no scroll wheel, the horror!!! I shouldn't complain though. Even though the laptop cost a disgusting two grand two years ago, and can't run any new games now, it DOES get the net and has been a good spare twice now in the past 8 months. Hopefully one of these days I'll get the thing paid off LOL

Thanks guys for your replies, it helped console me during my time of worries, you all rock!

(Sheesh it's just a PC you'd think I was awaiting serious medical tests or something, how addicted am I LOL?)

Great news Wendy! I know how I feel when my internet connection goes down - the nail-biting starts!

LOL I know Epona! You get so used to doing the same thing everyday. Having total "access" if you will. PC to play games, PC to get on the Net, TV for cheap extra entertainment, stereo for musical entertainment, man are we spoiled or what?

In the past month I have bought a new VCR for $80 cause mine went dead, then a week later bought NWNs for $55, didn't work so I had to get a new video card... add $100... then my CD player on my stereo went flippo, so had to get a new one, that was $70 (couldn't afford at the time a nice one, so just got the basics, 5-CD player), then my power supply on my PC pops, have to get that replaced, another $40.

There are people out there in other countries starving, would give anything for a sandwich, and here I whine and complain cause I can't play a PC game, or can't get on the Net to chat with people, or can't record crap on TV with a VCR, or can't listen to CDs with my set of 4-foot speakers. Hey I'm not rich in the least, but damn, I'm so much better off than so many, am spoiled is what it is. Electronics has taken over my life, my priorities it seems.. is that a good thing or a bad thing? Seems like a good debate topic I think.

Good for you. That would've really sucked if something really bad happened to your cpu. I mean you were playing it safe right by unplugging it. That wouldn't have been cool...
