Dark Alliance wasnt intended to be an RPG. Its an action game with stats using the DnD game world. It doesnt even use DnD rules for anything significant, so for all intents and purposes, take it for what it is, a damn fine action game, and quit expecting everything with a console stamp on it to be utter crap. They are two entirely different markets, and I daresay consoles know how to tell good stories heaps better than most PC games in existence.

Console RPGs are all really disappointing exceot FF which has something to show but nothing amazing! I would say PC RPGs are the best, and they will be for very long.

"Dark Alliance wasnt intended to be an RPG. "

You know as well as I do that they have marketed it as an RPG, and as it uses experience points and levels I would agree with them, and say its an RPG.

The only good thing about Dark Alliance is the character animations in the (very few) conversations you have.

I own a PS2 and there are loads of great games on that. Im definitely not anti-console ... I just wish they would produce proper RPGs for them.

Hey, it really depends on what your definition of an RPG is right? If it means levels and stats and EXP.. then yeah.. if you take a Role-Playing Game for what it is, then games like Final Fantasy dont really count because you're not role-playing, you're adventuring. Its all about opinion, so we'll agree to disagree.

And the character animations? Are you serious? That was the only part of the game I felt was "slightly" wierd I mean the bodies just seem to sway like bellydancers independant of the head or limbs. Would it kill them to stop shaking their bums around and gesturing while swaying their bodies back and forth? I mean the best example would be that bartender in the tavern.. she was WIERD! The way she moved was not natural at all..

I really liked the way they used non-verbal gestures to backup what they are saying. For example, when running a list of things off, they count on their fingers. I agree that it is probably all a bit much sometimes, but good to see they werent just static, which isnt too realisitic either.

I'm not anti console either but the thing that po's me is that game developers come up with games and call them an RPG because the game has some RPG elements. I said it allready, console RPG's don't exist.

Three exceptions to this rule:
Final Fantasy 1 - Very unlike all of the FFs to follow this one was a true (if primative) RPG.
Chrono Trigger - Very nice RPG if a bit linear, kinda reminds me of Wizards & Warriors.
Dragon Warrior 3 - The best console RPG I've seen.
