I saw an in depth program on the subject a few months ago and the supporters of the phenomenon say they have discovered a bacteria in human intestines that creates spontaenously combustible gasses and when the bacteria becomes overpopulated....well...BOOM! They credited this bacteria as the cause for SC.

That theory would certainly explain the case of the British woman who started shooting flames out of her mouth as she sat at the table with her husband and another relative, spooking the bejesus out of them as she died right there in front of them, reduced to little more than a pile of ashes and charred bones.

I am one of those people who usually has to see something to believe it but I don't carry a fire extinguisher around with me "just in case somebody combusts nearby".
Wouldn't it suck if my proof came in the form of flames flying out my own mouth lol. That would hurt!

Moni, that theory is probably the best one of all. And then its added with the 'Human Wick Effect' it is the Human Compustion!

I read a book on Spontaneous Human Combustion once. It really is quite a strange phenomenon, and I'm really not sure whether it's real or not. I guess it's the only way that we can explain some strange deaths so I guess until we come up with a better theory, it will have to do!

Well I am not about to believe in it until I combust myself.

But there is unexplained cases such as 'The Cinder Lady'. Noones figured out what happend to her. Her body was in ashes except for a foot and a shoe, her chair was destroyed, but nothing else was touched, except for some smoke stains. Scary scary.[/QUOTE]SHC has been successfully recreated using animal carcasses. It is a wick effect of the clothing and resulting cinders. Oil flames burn quite hot, but very small. The fat is rendered and the water escapes while the fat burns. A pig carcass, with similar body fat content to humans, was reduced to cinders bone and all. This was done in a room with common household items with the carcass laying on a mattress. It was covered with a cotton sheet and used 1 cup of grain alchohol for an accellerant. The room remained intact. Items placed high were partially melted by accumulated heat, but unburned. Most of the mattress along with the bottom part of the pigs legs remained intact. I watched this experiment on TV. That's it!
