"Were you surprised by the groundswell of anti-Jar Jar reaction?
Best: The majority of it was distorted. We approached the character with such innocence, and it's amazing how [vitriolic the response was]. It pretty much only happened in America; everywhere else in the world, it was no big deal. And things like seeing a completely innocent, docile cartoon character as something to be hated and despised [point to a bigger] problem within the American quote-unquote psyche. We're focusing so much on kill, die, and then we're wondering why people go crazy, why people shoot people, why people have no regard for human life, and yet--and still--the things that are being sensationalized are the things that glorify killing, shooting, maiming and destruction. Rather than say "Die, Jar Jar Binks," say, "Well, personally I didn't like the character, but hey, it was a good job, at least I believed it" [laughs].

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Were you bothered by the negativity?
Best: No, of course not; it doesn't bother me that people are stupid. I'm not stupid."

god, dont make me hate the actor too!
You know, Ahmed actually has a point.
he does? at which point?

to cross to the Dark Side he needs to be a Force user first. And, so far, the Jedi do NOT take in comic relief (thank God )

That people want a cartoon character they find irritating, mutilated, destroyed and maimed.

Doesn't say much for western society that so much mental energy has been devoted to loathing a fictional character of the entertainment industry.

How has this character deserved what people are wishing upon it? For simply existing? Blame George Lucas, who also created the characters and worlds you love.
Why we hate Jar Jar is because he's a character that belongs in Disney movie who's been moved to a Star Wars movie And we only wish the destruction of Jar Jar, not of George Lucas or any of the other things. And anyway, isn't it better that we wish the destruction of something non-living that we can't harm anyway, but which we can vent some of our anger upon, than our neighbour or such?
