If I recall my history France were on the winning side in WWI and WWII and I'm almost sure they were the first allied units to engage Iraqi troops during Desert Storm.

This could easily turn into a world war.

Saddam fires chemical or biological weapons at Israel, Israel retaliates with Nuclear weapons, more moderate Arab countries retaliate against Israel. The US Retaliates against the Arab countries in the Middle East, Russia supports it's allies in the area. Not an implausible scenario.

The only problem I see with this scenario is that I find it unlikely that Israel will use a Nuclear response given that Allied forces will be in the target area. I think it more likely that Israel would either allow the US to respond, or at most that they will deploy forces to Western Iraq where they can act against the launch systems that would be used to deliver WOMD's to Israel.

I would also tend to think that Saddam would not attemt such an attack until it's very late in the war (because of the instant swing in world opinion it would cause), and by then it'd likely be too late. I'm sure Western Iraq will be a priority target for Allied forces, and while it was tough to find SCUD's during Desert Storm, it won't be very difficult if that region is under our control.

Here's a scary scenario:

The US and Coalition of the Willing go in, and during the beginning phases, North Korea lobs a couple bombs to Hawaii.

Then the US will have a war with 2 countries on 2 different fronts. I wonder who would help, then?

If North Korea starts lobbing bombs at the US, I just hope China has enough sense to march into NK and put an end to that regime.

NK has got to be a thorn on China's side right now as China has a lot to lose if NK does attack.

As for Israel, I wouldn't be surprised to see Saddam launch a parting shot at Israel just out of spite.

Maybe from a hidden mobile SCUD battery.

Does anyone really want to go to war? The French are showing a little restraint and civility by wanting to give Saddam 30 days to remove any shadow of doubt that war is the only option. I agree with the French viewpoint, and feel that setting a deadline of 48 hours, is in my opinion, a little unrealistic.
Ever tried hiring a moving company with only 2 days notice? It's almost impossible.

First Sorry If I mis-spell anything in this post, spelling is not my strong point,

Hello World, We have only about 7% of our military power going after Saddam.
there are 5 or 6 U.S.Nuclear Submarines sitting within range to knock down anything Korea has to shoot at us. On those subs is enough fire power to blow up planet earth 4 or 5 times let alone the little country of Korea. Why do you think Bush isn't worring about it at this time. as far as Irac goes, We want the people of Irac to be Free. They should have the right to be able to go to sleep at night an know that nobody is going to come rip them out of their beds in the middle of the night drag them to some unknown Dungeon and kill them or the members of their family. We want the childern of Irac to have the right to go to school and become what ever they wish, so they can be Doctors and engineers or pilot space craft and explore the universe. To pray to their god in what ever way they wish and not be told what, who, or how to worship! We the People Of the United States want everyone on this planet to have what we have, and that is Freedom and the God given right to think, say, feel, and live anyway that we each want.We stayed out of world war II almost to long and this time we ar there first and that is a something that we as free people must do in order to distroy the Demons of this planet that prey on the weak and under privilaged and right now Saddam is that Demon and we will distroy him and bring the people of Irac back into the light and help them to become all they wish to be and at the same time eliminate terrorism from this planet.

And Animal where have you been for the past 12 years that the U.N. gave Saddam to disarm or be Disarmed? We gave him 12 years and 48 hours to disarm and as far as sideing with the cowards that run the french government you should take a better look at the whole picture because I really think you missed something
and sorry if you think I'm slamming you because I'm not, Just look a little harder at the whole picture and not just the past 24 months and maybe you'll see things a little more clearly.
May truth and peace rule the day, and may Saddam Go to Hell !!!!

Except by the US of course, who are telling them who they can and can't have as president.

Perhaps the US school system could teach them to be able to spell "Iraq" 1st. At least try to spell the name of the country you want to attack.

There is a peculiar logic here, we want you to be free so we're going to attack you.

It seems from the civilian reaction that the Iraqis don't seem to want the US's version of freedom imposed on them?.

The majority of the REAL civilian reaction has been neutral or positive. Of course when when the Saddam fanatics dress up as civilians, they'll try to make it look like the civilians aren't happy that Saddam is dead and his dictatorial rule (that civilians have NOT chosen, and with NO ability to address his brutality) is fading fast.
