The abduction happened during the 1970-ies. The victims were predominately academics who was kidnappened in order to teach North Korean spies about Japanese language and customs so they could easier infiltrate a persieved enemy.
The surviving victims were allowed to go to Japan last year - but all returned to NK - mainly because NK refused to let their new NK'an families leave with them ![]() But - these events took place during '70-ies, and have nothing to do with the present nuclear crisis. Most contries have 'skeletons in the closets'. Shall we start compairing?

What's more - North Korea admitted to the fact of the abductions and allowed the abductees to return home (recently) - as a direct result of the 'sunshine policy'. Thanks to GWB that reform process is now dead in the water... |

NK has done more than that. And those that were kidnaped from Japan were not all academics. Most were people who happened to be strolling on the beach at the wrong time.
I seem to recall at least two naval engagements between the NKs and the Sks ove the last two or three years. I also remember two US Army officers being hacked to death by NK soldiers back in the early eighties, while they were inspecting the DMZ. Something that under the Armistance was aloowed to happen. I also recall several LARGE tunnels beginning found in SK, that the NK had dug under the DMZ. Those tunnels were large enough to move Tanks, Artillary, large Trucks and vast bodies of troops through. Now why on earth would those tunnels have been constructed, unless there was a plan to use them in a sneak attack against South Korea? The NKs are far from innocent in any of this.

Ar-Cunin and Skunk, you are both apparently purposely trying to stir the pot here. There can be no question by any credible sources that NK is and has been a very vile and despicable nation, to its own people and to its neighbors. You both seem ot be trolling and just trying to goad people with your continued anti-american stances on the whole issue. You continuously refuse to acknowledge North Korea's consistant and continued brutality to its own people and it's failure to abide by its agreements, it appears that you are both just trying to enjoy a bit of america bashing.

1. Why are the *FACTS* 'America bashing'? I merely pointed out what happened - if you consider that to be 'America bashing', it means that you agree that the US has some responsibility for the current crisis - but don't want to admit it to yourself. 2. What has North Korea's (undeniably BAD) human rights record got to do with the 1994 agreement? The 1994 agreement made no stipulations that North Korea should improve its human rights record. 3. Can you explain where North Korea did not abide by the 1994 agreement? [ 01-23-2003, 04:22 AM: Message edited by: Skunk ] |

Now now, let's not lose our cools, eh?
And Majik, I don't think that Ar-Cunin and Skunk are necessarily trying to stir the pot - I'll be the judge of that. They just happen to share an opposing viewpoint to yours (don't worry, I've reading a few threads). Their viewpoint may be unpopular and is probably ill-informed and naive, but they are entitled to it, as long as they don't flame anybody. I'm sure they wouldn't stir the pot by using exaggeration or disinformation, knowing the dire consequences of such actions. Skunk and Ar-Cunin: you guys wouldn't be trying to stir the pot now, would you? I didn't think so. ![]() Cool heads, please, from everyone. We're doing well with a touchy topic - let's not ruin it, eh? [ 01-24-2003, 06:29 AM: Message edited by: Memnoch ] |
