Well Sir Tainly, the glory days are sure fun to remember though with your buddies!
on another note I just cannot understand how people would demolish these things. Its significant history! WHY? F*ucking idiots! I really dont get it. Has anyone seen that standing Buddha statue picture? Incredible! Also a tank target now. |

I guess the Taliban don't see the stautes as history, but as idolatry, so think no more of destroying them than and other unwanted builing. Not defending them here just trying to imagine the perspective.

I think their is a fair amount of difference between you and Salman Tainly, don´t worry about it.
Wolgir yes Christianity is a religion of forgiveness and love, but historically has been used by less than perfect indivuals who perhaps missed the point. (Read inquisition etc.) However it would be false to label Islam, a religion based on works, and say Buddhism, a religion of mentally disciplined neutrality, religions of love. Though they do indeed share some points, lumping them together is similar to saying all political idealologies are about conservationism, just because they are all represented by a political party. ![]() I shall avoid giving you my opinion on the statues destuction to avoid the scenario of one religions practitioner decrying the ideals and actions of another. I shall exercise tolerance of this closed minded destuction of human history for the sake of religious harmony. ![]() It has happened before and surely will happen again. ------------------ Where were Hamlet and Horatio when I needed them? |

You are correct Yorick, maybe I should have pointed out "fanatics" more but Islam and Buddhism, Shinto also have respect and understanding as higher goals, well well, hopefully we all will come to better insight and have a greater respect for each other some day..

Loa/Moiraine et al,
That's the thing about extremism, it really has no explanation. At least not one a rational person can understand. That you *don't* understand it is a good thing in my book. ![]() Sigh...it's not the first time in history that works of art and/or religious iconography etc have been destroyed by one faith or another in the name of their cause/belief....won't be the last, I imagine. It is a terrible shame. Now I'm feeling down...LoA, break out the stash of turnip spirits and lets have a party! Cloudy, waiting for her multi game ------------------ ![]() |

OK LofA - Inspector came through the albatross today. I guess the question of the day would be what exactly isn't going to complete sh** in the house? They said they put a new roof on it. Well, apparently they waited too long because water has been leaking down into the siding for many years. Inspector said anyone with even a hint of allergies would be in agony. Mold palace my friend! Windows completely rotted out and pretty much ready to fall out (one good blow should do it). There was actually GRASS growing in a couple of the top level windows! Oh yes, termites too. Yummy! Took a looksee in the refrigerator. Be having nightmares for a while now. I think whatever was growing through that crack under the bottom drawers look at me and winked! Strange reddish puddle leaking from underneath the fridge too. Moved a bit of boxes and stuff throughout the house stored against the walls, and lo and behold, stains stains stains! Water stains, cracks, bugs, etc. all hiding nicely. Oh yeah, and the furnace is 20 years old and hasn't been maintenanced EVER! No blue flames either. "New" air conditioner is plugged into a 20 amp box, wires just run through a hole in the wall that was never sealed. Every sink has a slow leak. Gutters outside are so bowed it looks like the house is smiling at you. Large tree near the house with roots completely under the house. I could go on and on here. This type of thing really gets to me because the owner basically is a liar. If I ever sold a house I owned, I would be completely and utterly honest about all the problems it had. Making money is good, but not at the expense of others. All I have to say is thank God for inspectors or we would have been taken but good!
Yorick - was getting ready to e-mail you. Well, I guess now it will be a short e-mail! Are you still at baby house? ------------------ ![]() |
