The guy was only married to her for FOUR years. Then, he spent EIGHT living with the family and trying to take care of her and nurse her back to health, until it became apparent the fight was over and they should respect her wishes not to live in a vegetative state. Then he spent another -- what -- SEVEN OR MORE years fighting against the family in court, just so he could remain true to her wishes.

I tell you Mr. O'Reilley, if I was Mr. Schiavo, I would let go -- let go of sanity. I'd have given up on respecting her wishes long ago and just said screw her, let her parents be selfish (to her detriment). In fact, were I this poor sod, I probably woulda been in her hospital room along about 1999 clubbing her like she was a baby seal.

Ain't law a bitch ? We created it to serve our best interrests, but in cases like this it appears to be our worst enemy.

Question Mark

It is interesting that you say that, Timber. Some members of the Schindler family, Bobby in particular, claim that that is possibly what put Terri into the hospital in the first place. One of the more rabidly-foaming-at-the-mouth sites out there posts links to what they claim are x-rays of Terri's skull showing fractures. If Terri did have skull fractures, then Michael Schiavo would still be sitting in a Florida prison cell.

All things considered, it looks like the poor sod has the patience of a saint.

I would posit that misuse of the law on the part of the Schindlers is the enemy here. The actual misuse of Constitutional authority by Congress and the threat of misuse of power by Gov. Bush are other enemies and ones upon which the Supreme Court should rule, but that wasn't part of the brief filed there.

But of course, johnny. The Saga of Terri Schiavo. Once there, look for the section, about one-third of the way down, about "Was Terri a Battered Wife?".

Thanks for that link Azred, this is the kind of info i was looking for. I haven't gone through the lot yet, but so far it's not getting less complicated.

Okay, what's a compression fracture ?

"Somebody worked her over real good" is another thing that stuck by me. Is it possible to pinpoint when in time such a thing could have taken place ? Excuse my ignorance here, i'm no doctor.

pdf files cannot be copied and pasted, or at least I have no idea how to do it with the free Reader version. Otherwise I would have been glad to have assisted you.

So to recap at this moment from what I know...The governer said "no" to the State of Florida taking custody of Terri...but when the latest of all the doctors looked at her file and claims that she is not as vegetative as was previously stated, then the governer said, "Hey! Tell me more! I might be able to do something afterall".

I do not see any abuse scandals being thrown up as topic headers yet...so I am assuming that they are trying to determine her state of consciousness as soon as possible.

Sad, ain't it? They've had 15 years and 20 courts to prove that she had consciousness...and only NOW after two previous unpluggings has ONE doctor come up and said that there is something there? I am skeptic to believe him in these final moments of Terri's last chance. But we'll see.

Stay tuned.
