I am quite surprised you don't agree with this one, Timber.
That's because you presume I actually read up on the issue rather than just making a quip comment and moving along.

Well well well, they are welcome to try, But I'll tell you right now it will be a cold day in "Hale" before the U.N.R.S. gets any of the money I earn.

Do you have shares in a weapon factory, Timber ?
Damn... busted.

Look, I have French clients and I've dealt with the French attitude toward environmental law.

Whatever the proposal may say about environmental law, I assure you it's not nearly akin to what we have in the US. While Chirac may be tossing it into his mix of taxes he wishes to assert, I assure you that until the rest of the world is on par (golf term) with our environmental laws, we will just see any reference of that notion as laughable polemico. The French, the Germands, the Britts -- none of you can compare to the level of environmental responsibility required here by law.

And, until you do -- until you assign absolute and strict liability for environmental harms -- you can be assured that we scoff at your calls based on any sort of environmental agenda.

TL, beret sales? Come now, what gives? All of mine, and most of my peers come from North of the border. I'm sure they wouldn't take to lightly to this tax law.

I find the arms deals very interesting, especially now that the Euro-Fighter is complete and all parties have secured their orders. That then only leaves _______, ______, and the US left trading on the open market.

My, are you paranoid in the US, a tax tailored against the US, indeed. One would think the US are the only people in the world using weapons and making financial deals. What an interesting concept. Do you have shares in a weapon factory, Timber ?
The proposed tax isn't on the use of weapons, Moiraine, it is on the selling of weapons. And since the U.S. has traditionally been a major supplier of military weapons and technology to several countries - it certainly does look like a tax aimed primarily at "US". I would like to know more detail on the "financial transactions" he mentioned - but since many U.S. Corporations have moved their factories overseas to benefit from lower wages and less restrictive environmental laws, it could again be presumed that the U.S. would still be paying the largest portion of this proposed "global tax".

If Chirac wants to implement a global tax that is truly fair and representative, then simply slap a set percentage tax on ALL imports and exports for every country. And - as mentioned before - I would also like to know what system Chirac has proposed for actually distributing the tax money to the poor to ensure that the money doesn't just go to pay for the increased bureacracy the "global tax" would create.

The idea of this tax is to reduce the number of people living in poverty. A more effective way to do this would be to tax food and give the revenue to the arms manufacturers.
