Surviving relatives of victims killed in the attacks of 11 September. I clearly remember them bickering about who should get more compensation money; at that point they lost any sympathy I had for them.

I apologize for having an unclear reference.

Hmmm I had a post but it went away to poof land when I hit submit. Wierd.

Anyway the title of thread should have included the words "accused of" so I have edited the title to reflect this.

I think the President would have been better served showing images of his speeches at ground zero, rather than show the coffin and the destruction. That would be more in line with a theme of optimism and upliftment in my opinion.

late edit for dyslexia-induced grammar error.

I found the ads tasteless and insensitive.
Furthermore, if I was Bush I wouldn't have opened the Pandora's box.

Think about it. How about showing footage of the US president when he first heard the news (holding a book upside down), and going on to show how he was busy hiding in an airplane, far away from the people on the ground that needed him and so on, and so on.

Maybe other people will associate Bush with GETTING ATTACKED and realise that the risks of a second attack have increased, rather than decreased under his watch. Maybe it opens up the whole Iraq war and the daily casualty rate into the public domain.

This kind of thing can come back to bite you. I hope it does.

Quoted from The Arizona Daily Wildcat via Associated Press:

Privately, he assured Republican and Democratic leaders that he has "no ambition whatsoever" to exploit the war on terrorism for political gain in this election year.

With his chief political strategist, Karl Rove, seated behind him in the Cabinet Room, Bush gave House and Senate leaders an update on the fight against terrorists and added: "I have no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political issue. There is no daylight between the executive and the legislative branches."
I guess times have changed since January of 2002.

I think parts of these ads may be construed as exploiting for political gain.

There has been a video floating around for years of what was going on when the planes hit on 9/11. I don't know if this is part of what skunk is alluding to.

Mr. Bush is at Booker School, following along with the kids in a classroom, the reading of a book about a goat. Even after it is shown he had been told that that attacks were in progress, he continued to sit and follow along about the goat. It is said he did not want to alarm the children.

You can view the video here.

Mark

[EDIT]Because I found a site with the video available that was less over the top.

The upside down book was a photoshop trick as I recall. But he did hang out with the kiddies after being told we were under attack.

Also I heard a great line on Bill Mahar over the weekend. If 9/11 had happened under a Democratic president we would be getting bombarded with ads from the GOP showing the planes hitting the WTC and a voice over saying "Look what happened on their watch!"

As President of the USA President Bush can not afford to make quick emotional responses to news, he is very aware that EVERYTHING he does has consequences, major Consequences. Does anybody remember the hubbub made when his father got sick in Japan? If President Bush had jumped up and left, or done an equaly stupid rash action there would have been more panic then was going on that fateful day. As for President Bush leaving and flying around well DUH, in fact double DUH. Like it or not He is and was the President on 11 Sept., 2001 and the leader of our country. The safety of the leadership and command and control of our country is paramount in times of uncertainty. Anybody that would doubt that, for what ever reason is foolish, or a political hack incapitable of even minded clear thinking. I would have expected President Clinton to have done the same thing, and the same for Gore if he would have won the electorial college vote. And may it be a cold day in "Hale" if I ever was so small as to hold that agianst them.

If anybody takes the logic proposed, then they better have the stones to apply the same logic and reasoning to themselves. And because they were doing their job on 11 Sept., 2001, didn't get up immeditlly(sp?) go to ground zero. then they are unfit for their job and must quit or be fired!!!!

You know, I'm actually siding with Jobn and Bush on this one. ::freezes, hands off keyboard, and looks around, alarmed, for flying pigs or the Four Horsemen:: I think Bush made a good call there ::glances over shoulder:: by not acting rashly ::checks to see if the ground has opened up::
