I like his dialogues with Mazzy:

"That reminds me of that time at the start of the great underwear shortage, and we set sail for the southlands. I got up on deck and started dancing naked. Eventualy, when my nose and other extremities got a bit frosty, I went below again"

"Shutup shutup shutup shutup!"

"My poor underwear, battered and rugged..."

"SHUTUP!"

or something like that anyway

I like the fact that he is short and bald, smells of turnips and is always in trouble with the law

"It shall be done with skill and care, if not brevity."

"Don't forget to raise me....."

Those had me laughing to myself for quite a while.....not to mention his dialogue with Keldorn about virtue.

And besides the fact that he's the best dang Thief in the game....

I like his Uncle Gearhardt, too.

He belches like I do after I've been drinking beer too. And with as little apology.

Dropping Yoshimo for Jan has been a good move so far.

What DON'T I like about Jan, he is great! He is an ok mage and an ok thief, but his personality rocks and he can throw anyone off in a conversation.

The fact that he tries to steal Boo from Minsc is amusing as well.

Everything. And the Valygar dialogue was great as well, asking about Valygar's parents or something in his normal manner and gets the short, monotone answer "My mother raised my father from the dead, who turned into a zombie and I had to kill them both". Now THAT made him shut up!

Definitely agree that dropping Yoshimo for Jan was a good move. My only regret was that in the Asylum after rescuing Imoen I had to remove one party member. It had to be Jan, as I didn't have room for two thief/mages. I regret it because (and I don't know if this always happens) I couldn't tell him to get out, I could only say that he had to stay where he was. After I came back into the main chamber Jan had gone nuts and attacked me. For old times sake I actually tried to avoid killing him, but in the end it was unavoidable so I felt a bit guilty about that being a good guy and everything...

Re Anomen as I always have to defend him: the guy is just misunderstood. If you have Jan in your group (plus Mazzy for a while), and he gets his knighthood, AND you both are diplomatic and occasionally slap him down when he gets too much (which Jan does with his Ano the orc story), then he does change for the better. By the end of ToB he was one very powerful cleric and quite tolerable. You've got to take account of his background - his dad wasn't exactly the perfect father, and he really just lacks self-confidence. He needs the knighthood to make him feel like he can achieve things on his own and free himself from his hatred of his father, but he also needs speaking to sharply now and then to iron out the worst of his (many) personality disorders. At least, that's my personal pop-psychoanalysis of Ano. It's worth it in the end because at high level then he is very, very useful to have around.
