It's called sentimental value. It's like losing an old friend that brought much delite.

Not to mention the three or four year gap between Hubbles esitmated demise date and it's replacement.

I think we have grown 'chicken' due to the Shuttle disaster( ie. that we are now scared to take the risks involved to maintian and enhance Hubble) and are putting our eggs into election-year presidential pipe dreams rather than more practical ( and already in place and functioning) concerns.
