It's very difficult to attribute one thing to something like crime rate. There are sooooo many factors. In my opinion, poverty and illegal drugs contribute more to crime than any other reasons combined. You can try to eliminate poverty, but it seems impossible. No matter what economic model you seem to try and implement, you still get poverty. It seems to be a law of nature that a small percentage of people end up with a majority of the wealth, and with it, people who try to take that wealth by force. It's one of the many facets of competition for resources. It's been that way throughout history. Even communism doesn't work at eradicating poverty. "A law of nature" is an interesting phrase to be used in economics, don't you think? Economics is predictable enough that it is considered a science by some. Strange bedfellows pysics and economics, don't you think?
