Me too.

I saw a Faux (Fox) news commentator (Sean Hannity) say that an average American family wouldnt want their kids to be exposed to the kind of "dirty human being" a homeless person is when he was "debating" the panhandle licensing that Cincinati recently instated. Boy, did he get a scathing email from me that night.

When a supposedly educated and "popular" adult makes such a gross generalization its not hard to understand why mere teenagers would consider them less than human and treat them as such.

I will never regret getting to know, even if just a little, dozens of homeless people, many of them are mentally ill and/or filled with despair and addicted. It is amazing to see them smile just because you ask them their name, where they are from, if they would like food or even just a cigarette. I call it reverse panhandling, offer before they ask. It is such a small effort and it shows them dignity, respect, and understanding. The reward is watching the facade of a "rough" appearance melt way and exposing the person beneath it.
