I think the easiest and safest way to combat overpopulation is to slap a big fine on people who start having too many children.

Then again , I could be all wrong. Maybe the people actualy like living in thoes conditions and enjoy living close enough together to sniff each others farts. Hey at least they will never be lonely.

That is a typical American opinion. You have never known what it is like to be hungry. To be starving. So you can barely move. You have never been lost and sick and starving at the same time.

You have been provided for all your life. When you were little i bet your parents got you food. I reckon that you went to school. I reckon that your school got you the qualifications for a job.

This is a good point, contraception would stop alot of unwanted children to come to this world, but how would some of these people get contraceptions? It's not like they have a convinient store around the corner, someone needs to give it to them, as you say. Also, part of why parents have many children are because many of the kids die and then they need to have more children so they can help their parents when they get old. It's not something they choose (I'm talking about the really poor people here) it's something they have to do to survive themselves.
It's easy for someone who has food on his table and a roof over his head to judge people who doesn't.
And Goulom I think you and Josef Stalin would agree on a lot of issues, this among others.

I realise the logistical difficulties but alot of the populations live in or near cities. They have trucks and could airdrop in remote areas. The KEY problem lies in getting the people to use them.

I think that you don´t only have to focus on religion but also have too look further to the aspect of traditions and the evulation of modern society. As the medical advancement increase to where most children will live and health care and the care for elder is taken care of by the society, many still have their tradition of large families for safety and support. Education, is a good tool, a humane tool but it takes time.

OMG true story. red cross tried teaching the peeps of ethiopia or somalia dont remember which ones but. to show these people how to use condoms without actually doing it on a penis they demonstrated with a corn cob since it was there to demonstrate. well after leaving the people alone for a year and to come back and see the progress, was shock and amazement on their faces when they had more children and were all starving due to the fact that intire crops of corn where covered in condoms and completly wiped out.(bwhhahahahaha) sorry imagine the pun in that one. but in all seriousness its not the actual peoples falt. they have to spit out 8 to 10 kids hoping 1 will grow up and keep the family line gowing. cause most will end up dying from disease and or famine. and its not the peoples fault its like that its their governments problem. they either have to weak a government or they have corrupt people keeping the little people down.ever watch the movie "black hawk down" that was a true story. people had no say so in affairs of food and medicine. the government was not and is not as powerful as the local mafias controlling it.now china has had a remarkable comback in population after how many people where killed by the japanese in ww2.india on the other hand IMHO are just plain stupid. they are starving to death and they got food running rampant throughout their country. good ole religion cows are sacred and have more rights than the common man and basic muslim beleives are pigs and or swine are "dirty" cause they eat their own crap.hhhhhmmm bacon. china doesnt really have to stop its birthrate in a sense that at least they keep up with food demands.they want to stop overpoplulation cause its not the country that is suffering its the cities. they dont live everywhere they live nice and condensed(which by the way is in a sense stupid in time of war)(quote dont keep all your eggs in one basket or so few a baskets)makes for easy targets in war.hey soon china will side with us like russia has resently done then soon the world will be in control of one powerful government and any country who bit*hes gets no aid. hell the US has done a good job running the world so far.(and what goulum said at the beginning was pretty stupid, we hate the mass immigration the US has now why should it be forced upon canada or russia, russia has enough problems trying to rebuild a fallen impire).(better idea send them to the middle east and help with oil production, put them to work and help the rest of the rich world enjoy the fruits of their labor(kidding))

Okay lets see how many points I can cover

General Overpopulation: People in the delevoping world have many children because there isn't any social security - the only way to secure yourself in your old age is to get children who can support you.

China: One child policy. (IIRC) The chinese goverment does not send people to jail for having more than one child. They 'just' remove all social benefits for the entire family -including the right to go to school.
And the one child policy isn't strictly inforced in some parts of the country - the total population in China keeps rising.
Abortions are common in the places where the policy is enforced - you need a boy to carry on the family(-name).

India: Abortions (of female foetoses) are very common here - girl need dowries to get married - boys recieve them. Therefore girls are a burden to a family + woman that marry become part of their husbands family and can do (house)work for them. The problem has become so great that there are a 'surplus' of 50.000.000 males in India - out of a population of around 1.000.000.000 people. In fact even the smallest towns have a 'doctor' that performs ultra-scans, so that parents can determine the sex of a foetos.

In closing - 'We' (in the western world) can't stop people in the third world having children. We can advice the govrenments - try and influence people (fx. birth control) - and help the people of the developing world get a better standard of living (fx. removing trade barriers). But 'we' can't force through anything - 'we' are dealing with independent nations
