Ugh... I hope you were joking about the big fry up Arledrian, at least not with too much butter on (and this is from a recent experience.)
Water's really good, especially since there's no point drinking something which actually has much tase to it, because almost anything that does tastes absolutely disgusting the morning after.

I certainly wasn't joking, my friend

Seriously, that's generally the only time I eat greasy/fatty food, I don't like it all that much normally, but there truly is nothing better than sausage, egg and beans when you wake up with a hangover.

Give it a try

Actually I agree with those that suggest the fry-up. Done it many a time myself and it does help a lot.

One thought occurs to me, will I still be doing this when I'm 80? Or does there come a point when you think 'enough is enough' and quit with the drunken nights out? Actually, if I ever feel like quitting having fun, just take me out back and shoot me...

I have to agree with this, and with Epona.

Drink tons of water. I also drink OJ. Some folks like sodas (Sprite or cola, like Epona mentioned.)

But, a big fry-up will work, usually.

In Mexico, they use a lot of Topo-Chico, a brand of carbonated mineral waters, with different flavors. THESE WORK GREAT for a hangover.

and the surprise cure for a hangover, used throughout a country known for parying (and about to have another Cinco de Mayo blowout) is MENUDO!

Yup, this greasy, tasty soup made with various ingredients is a sure bet to cure a hang-over!

On a sad note, I had to quit drinking after the diagnosis of diabetes. Mixing it with my medication would put me in a come.

Rudy, that's terrible! I'm sorry to hear about the diabetes. I understand about the drinking, though, because I had to pretty much give it up when I had Pancreatitis/gallstones. Now I just have a little sip at parties now and again (like a 1/2 glass of champagne at New Years). Now that I have my gallbladder out, I don't really have to worry anymore, but I'm still cautious.

Grind a dried up lizard to a pulp, mix it with a raw egg in about a teaspoon of brandy and drink up. If its a real bad hangover replace the dry lizard with a freeze-dreid scorpion... preferably madagascarian...

Since "hangover" is caused by dehydratation, the solution actually work it's best when taken before you go to be:

Take one 8oz glass of water for each ounce of Alcohol you drank.

So, if you drank 25oz of Rum, you drink 25 glasses of water

1 beer = 1 oz of hard stuff
1 glass or wine or spirit = 1 oz of hard stuff.

Also, depending on what you drink the night before, you might want to be carefull as to what you drink the next morning.

If you had mixes with O.J. stay away from O.J.
Rum and Cokes... stay away from coke...

The only exception: Beer, you can have another one in the morning, it helps.

I normally try to drink at least a pint of water before I get to bed, unfortunately last night I was so tired I went to bed as soon as I got home. Also, I was mixing drinks all night (beer, wine and spirits), my fault, but a lot was included in the ticket.

BTW Dehydration isn't the only part of a hangover; excessive drinking lowers your blood sugar level (as well as many vitamins), so eating/drinking something sweet helps. Also, your the sodium/potassium pumps in your nerves get unbalanced, which doesn't help either. Bananas are ideal for solving both of these, however, actually eating one when you feel that rough is another matter.

If I'm really bad (ala this morning) the cure I normally use goes something along the lines of; water/squash followed by a glass of milk (helps settle my stomach). Then a couple of slices of toast with loads of honey on it, followed by more water and finally a nice cup of tea . This generally gets me to the 'managing a fry-up stage' (or at least a bacon sandwich) within an hour or so.

Another alternative is a Prairie oyster, which consists of a raw egg (with yoke unbroken), a dash of Worchester sauce with a sprinkling of salt and pepper. I get the feeling that if you can actually drink this, you attention is taken away from the hangover, though I've never tried it (and only know 3 people that have).
