When BG came out it impressed me despite my skepticism. I thoroughly enjoyed that gaming experience. BGII takes BG to the next level in story, detail, and graphics. And though BGII takes the cake over the original in my opinion, BG is still dear to my heart!

IWD felt hollow compared to BG. If all you want is a nigh-constant hack and slash dungeon crawl brawl without the hassle of plot development in character interaction, IWD is for you. If you want more, BG is the way to go.

The very title of your topic frightens me. I suppose that once you finish BG2 you rub your eyes and rejoin the living. Your productivity, whether it is in your job or in school probably triples. And you start thinking about what kind of character you want to make for your next trip through BG2. BG1 is a nice option though. As for diablo, I started with that and enjoyed it, but once I discovered Baldur's Gate I never went back.

I must begin with, there is nothing better than the BG series, everything else seems to pale in comparison. If you want to give Wizardry8 a try without buying the game, I suggest you get a copy of the March 2002 PC Gamer magazine. That edition has a demo of Wizardry 8.

Have fun!! And no, there is no life without BG.

Hes right! That game is totally not worth playing unless u spend ur entire summer playing in multiplayer games like i did! They say it alll hacknslash...not if ur a sorceress hehe! But most of the games u want range from like 20-40 dollars, so choose wisely!

Well, Divine Divinity is coming pout sometime soon, as is Morrowind and IWD2... so play Divine Divinity! All of ye shall play it! Moo!!! Now, yes shall all go to its official site and look at the fancy forums and other stuff, right? Go to de site. Please. I must convince more people to play it, since I don't know enough German yet to talk to all the people from Belgium/Germany who will be playing it (it's being made there, but it's going to be released in English, German, and I think some other languages too). Please. It will be a very nice game. Everything, even the walls, are objects. You can break barrels and beats people with the barrel staves. Or spoons. You can make your own potions. NPCs (like shopkeepers) respond differently based on how you treat them (and they remember how you've treated them) and whether you have weapons out. And it's fancy. Please go to the site...

Don't look at a title, look at what the game is behind it. The PS2 BG is an action game, not an RPG at all. If you like BG2's look-and-feel, I think you may want to consider Planescape: Torment, or Gorasul (a German RPG which is a blatant BG2 clone, has good balance and some interesting ideas, but really requires the bugfix up the Jo Wood website to work properly). If you enjoy 1st person, single character RPGs, Morrowind should be out in less than a month, and it looks incredible. Want a 1st person, multiple character RPG? Try Wizardry 8: it's fun. Give a try on Fallout2 and Fallout Tactics: Broterhood of Steel. They are different from BG-series, but still can pin you to your PC. Another Role-Play system and completely "new" atmosphere, but still in 3-th person.

Here's my 2 cents.

BG1 is a great game, just a lot more tedious than BG2. It's just not as neatly put together and your path is not as clear. I find it hard to play BG1 after spending a lot of time in BG2. It's still good though.

Planescape is a fantastic game with a wonderful story. I highly recommend you get it and take a week off work.

Icewind Dale and the expansion was a good game to play while waiting for BG2. BG2 is far superior.
