Best soundtrack ever?

Final Fantasy 7, without a doubt. The other FF games have great soundtracks, but FF7 wins them all. I have them all downloaded, and FF7 all the time [img]smile.gif[/img]

Spirit Warrior, the song you are referring to will be "Aeries Theme", a classical piano piece from FF7. Awesome song.

And Bozo, I also love the Civ4 title track. The title track is "Baba Yetu". That translates to the "Our Father" in Swahili. And it's so much better than Cliff Richards western version. Another awesome song.

I've not really gathered a taste for soundtracks from Squaresoft games, but lots of fanatics are constantly telling me how great they are.

Maybe I'll get to finally playing some and see for myself.

They're extremely popular amongst remixers for material at OCremix for example, which is a good site for video game music/remix fans:

I've managed to gather my own humble collection over the last few years, here are a few favourites:

Ultima Ascension
Ultima Collection (my own creation with music from U4-U8)
Back In Time collection (C64 themes!)
Merregnon 1+2 (Amiga composers creation - very relaxing, with its fantasy rpg like instrumentation. www.merregnon.com
Icewind Dale I (Kuldahar theme is magical, aye! Sounds fascinating when played with distortion though on bass!)
Fallout (Maaaaybeee...you'll think of meeee!)
Baldurs Gate/PST
Might and Magic's 6-9 (Track 2 onwards with play disks, as an audio cd.)

That'll do for now. Good to know there's some fellow game music fans around.

There are tons, and I'll just name the few that come to me.

From the early days:
Death Knights of Krynn (the Fat Man was brilliant, and the industry wouldn't be the same without him actually taking electronic music seriously)
Darklands
Lunar: the Silver Star (not the Playstation...ugh)

More recently:
Interstate 76 - seriously..funkadelic lol
The Sims 2 I'll second for catchy and annoying, but above all, unmistakenly professional
Fallout 1&2 for sure. I can't think of a better usage of either of those songs coming up again, however, in game music was sparse.
