We've also got Spore comming in late 2006.

Link to ~35 minute gameplay video:

Video is from the Game Developers Conference.

Personally I'm pretty excited about that as well.

I've been waiting for spore since I first heard of it a couple of years ago. It has the potential to be one of the best game ever.

I'm actually quite tempted to get Oblivion on the xbox 360. Always played rpgs on pc since getting Bards Tale and Dungeon Keeper back in the 80s but I never got around to finising Morrowind due to doing so much other stuff with mods etc. I know I'll miss the mods on the console but equally it may mean I get to do the whole game. Also a bit easier to play for a short time on the xbox

Tough call really

Oblivion is freaking amazing.. I really love the nature shots and dungeon screens.. I could just hang out in the forest and hunt! So cool. Can't WAIT to enjoy it.
You meen it will be dead during the release time weeks and then BOOM the forum explodes with "How to kill Kangaxx" threads
But I agree, CRPG's are comming strongly (thankfully) again and it can be a delightful gaming year!

Well I think the MMO thing took off too fast at some point and kind of burned itself out. Not that they aren't here to stay (they are) but atm I feel all that can be done online has been and now people are looking toward more fulfilling single-player experiences that you can just get lost in all by yourself.

I agree that all MMORPG's that are released nowadays aren't special. All have elves, dwarves, trolls, ogres, magic items to boot.

The problem is: players want it that way! All new ideas get burned down because they are weird, or somesuch.

Well not all players want it that way, that's for sure.
I'm not playing WoW or Everquest or similar because I'm sick and tired of elves and dwarves and such.
I'm more than happy playing EVE Online at the moment and it'll take one helluva game to make me switch for good.

The biggest problem is that fantasy MMOs have all been blockbusters or atleast mildly successful. So developers find that it's easier to find investers for that type of game.

I mean out of all the MMOs name one Sci-fi one that is clost to be a blockbuster?

Eve Online is the closest but still falls short of even DAoC numbers. Forget the Matrix, Star Wars, and Anarchy Online. Then you have Endless Age Jumpgate and others that are even worse.

The fact that none of these have been great games with the exception of EVE (Though the skill system turns off a lot of people) many of the investors are scared to go after a sci-fi MMO. However the future might change with Huxley coming out and Stargate and Star Trek Online on the horizons. If these manage to become even just decent hits then we'll see a new run of MMOs all in the Sci Fi setting.
