Seems to me that the temple only dropped your rep if you donated, not if you got healed. I'll have to pay attention...

I did discover something that I hadn't seen before. Perception actually does something useful in MM6! Remember all the useless crystals you can find? Well, if your perception is high enough, they will turn into gems when you search them. If it's too low, they are useless. And if you come back later with higher perception, they can be picked up as gems

As for shadowspire... well, armageddon would also kill all the townsfolks, so that may not be the best idea. I don't remember... do starburst and meteor shower exist in v8? They would be ideal...

And for me, the fact that you can go to a super-advanced area in the MM games is a plus. That's one of the things I don't like about W&W -- it's flexible, but in a linear sort of way.

Really? well blow me down. I thought in mm6 the perception skill is as useless as diplomacy. But still it doesn't work as what the skill description said. Go to castle darkmoor and see traps will sprung out of nowhere and blow up right at your face.

It's great you can visit high level places earlier in mm6. I remember one time I just press a wall somewhere in New Sorpigal and I end up in Dragonsand. yikes!!

I recently replayed Ultima 7 part 2 Serpent Isle. Fantastic! Limited in terms of character (i.e. stats etc.) and story options and so on, but the detail that made up the Ultima universe is so amazingly immense. The story is so rich and the characters are really well developed. I definitely *made* time to play rather than just playing when I had time to kill. Now I'm hankering to play Ultima Underworld again...

I'm going back and playing Might % Magic 3--Isles of Terra. Absolutely primitive graphics, but great gameplay.

P.S. It runs just fine on Win 98.

Hmmm... DBear, you've made me think that I may just want to keep a Win98 box around just for those golden oldies. I replayed MM4-5 a couple of years ago -- man, was it easy when only three monsters could attack you at a time!

Although my first CRPG was MM1, which I played through to its conclusion, and I've played every one since, I think that I failed to complete either MM2 or MM3... that Win98 box may be just the ticket to go do that.

Just going to have to get a three-machine or more KVM switch... I've got a two-way now for my main PC and my Linux box. More power...

I have never had a problem running old games on my computer which is running Windows XP Pro. I have never seen the compatability function work, so I just go to the executable file and manually change all of the memory appropriatly (usually so that all are automatically allocated). The games always work like a champ.

Of course, my computer was made for Windows 98, so it may be wired in a way that does not conflict with old games.

I have to admit, although today's graphics are far better than anything in the past, I find that almost all of the games on my computer are from 1992 and before. I still think that game designers knew that graphics alone would not sell games, so they had to make sure that the content would satisfy thier customers--and I am one who couldn't give a rip about graphics, as long as the game was good.

Heh...the New World Computing "dungeon". 10,000 gold, +40 stat boosts all around, Day of the Gods which gives +200, and if your lucky some great equipment.

Of course, you do have to survive about 2 seconds with the dragons...

Never had the dragons as an issue after the first time in. Go into turn-based mode before touching on the wall, and once you've landed, run as fast as you can into the shrine. Touch the special critter, then the wall to get in.

On the way out, do the same thing. Turn-based mode, then leave the dungeon. Spin right, and then run to the wall to hit the New Sorpigal teleport back. Save early and often, though... sometimes, that teleport spot isn't quite where you'd expect....

I never knew there was a New Sorpigal town portal back...I always banked on finding a gate master (as normally I head to Mist with a few thousand gold to buy skills).

Yeppers... amazing that you can still learn new things on an old game, isn't it?

I just had a thought strike me... the armageddon spell, which delivers damage to everything on the map, will really hammer your reputation if you slay some peasants with it. I read somewhere that when you hire a peasant (NPC), they don't come back. So if New Sorpigal starts out with 30 peasants, if you hire and fire all of them, there will be no peasants at all.

So.... if you do that in a problem area, you could clear the place so that you could cast armageddon without losing any reputation!

Now, to see if that's practical anywhere...
