For me, Quake II is still the ultimate school LAN (Ah, memories).
Although things have probably moved on since then.

There are...err...ways of getting around Steam accounts on LANs, depending upon how they are set up. Typically, though, you need a direct (switch) type connection rather than a router....

Well, the original Unreal Tournament should be playable on the school computers (very low minimum specifications) and should be available for under $10 - well worth the purchase.
Then, I would download the mods Tactical Ops (version 3.3.2, free edition) and Infiltration. Effectively, you would be getting three different games for your money. Well worth it at the price and all very playable titles. |

Well, if Tribes doesnt work (which it should, And I LOVE that game) you could always get number 2, which is also free.
Better Graphics More single player stuff Better layout/controls More vehicles Though I wouldnt suggest buying Tribes:Vengance, unless by crap you mean those computers kick ass |

Your probalbly related to the wanna-be assasin that can kill me while strafing in mid air with a rail-gun in q3, he must spend all his time playing it. Got a bit of a vendetta and chased him with a shot-gun for about 10 min, killed him about 15-20 times. That'll teach him.

I second AvP, or even AvP 2. Both very awesome games. I played it on LAN once, me and my friends had a great time as pred hiding and sniping each other from afar.
