Well, now that I knew the answer to one, it's hard to think of questions.

1. In Colonization, what was the advantage of choosing the English?

2. In Morrowind, you might find a guy that falls out of the sky and dies. What special scroll does he have?

2. it grants you +1000 to acrobatics. I think it's called 'the scroll of Icarus flight'. Tried to duplicate that one for ages.. without luck.

Well the dutch got a merchantman, the French had a hardy pioneer, the Spanish got a... hmm extra soldier? Bonus when looting Indians? Something military, I'm sure. But I have no idea what bonus the English got! The pleasure of starting closest to the Carribean and having to build colonies on those puny islands and only harvesting sugar? Woohoo

I think it is because of the trade aspect of dutch colonisation in the americas. Each nationality got a starting bonus that reflected their general 'theme' or flavour as colonisers. Like the Spanish with the military aspect.

Actually now that I think about it the starting position was random and each nationality could start in any of four places. So there goes that theory for the English! I really have no clue. But I am feeling nostalgic to play again!

Dreamer got it.

The English only needed 2/3 normal crosses to recruit a random person for free, so basically more people. The French got diplomacy, meaning better relationships with the Indians, the Spanish got a bonus when attacking Indians or their colonies, and the Dutch got the merchantman ship.

I usually play the English since it's useful near the beginning to get the carpenters and farmers. It happens a lot less often later, but it's still useful to get a free colonist, even an indentured servant or petty criminals.

Edit: the French get the hardy pioneer and the diplomacy bonus. I've only played as the French once before, so I didn't notice.

Edit again: looking at GameFAQs, the Spanish are the only ones who get a veteran soldier on higher difficulties, and the Dutch market in Europe is more stable.
