If it doesn't contain anything new (other than updated graphics) then I agree with Ziroc... it's nothing to get too excited about (I've gotten bored with twitchers after almost 10 years), and at this point I've seen nothing revolutionary in the releases from ID... I'm hoping they're hiding some cool stuff that we'll find out about.
At this point I'm looking forward to Half Life 2 more than D3, I HAVE seen revolutionary improvements to the concept of a shooter in the demo's of that game. As far as copy protection, I checked out the star-force site and it looks like their package doesn't include custom cd drivers (something that would be very tough to do), it's a high end encryption and activation approach... looks pretty cool actually. It replaces unreliable and easy to crack cd based protection schemes with a more robust approach that encrypts part or all of the application and requires a key that's machine specific to decrypt. Downside is that you'll need to activate, but Microsoft already got us all used to doing that so it should be no big deal. It's the face of things to come, I wouldn't be surprised to see activation and encryption used broadly in the coming years (now that most of us are online). Since I had no intention to pirate the game I don't see it as a problem, but even so it'll just be a matter of time before someone puts out a keygen applet for the game (no copy protection scheme is 100%). I'm not that interested in single player shooting games, except when they're heavily based on a good, solid storyline. Mind you, I started playing Half-Life (which has a decent storyline) but never finished it.
I'm more into Unreal Tournament. Playing a shooter online is always more fun IMHO |

I hope so Brother, I hope so! I DO love Shooters ONLINE as well. Hell, I was one of the first people to play Quake 1 with a 3DFX (for those of you that remember, You got that card to see the awesome water (at the time it was awesome) and you could see under water)
![]() I still hit Quake III and Unreal Tourn 2004 on and off, but I like making games more than playing them now--Sim City 2000, Sim City 4, And my NWN Mod and Dungeon Craft--our Goldbox Clone we've been working on for 3 years. (You can download the latest Beta anytime!) |

I just got off playing it for a few hours and to be honest, Far Cry's graphics are superior by a few miles or so. Not that Doom 3 is lacking in that department, but although it has nice lighting and shadowing, I find that's about it. This said I'm running with everything on full save from AA which is set to 8x.
Gameplay on the other hand is overly enjoyable. It has a nice dark feel and has made me jump more than a few times which I find pleasing. Although this is coming from a huge FPS fan, Doom 3 is well worth the pirce tag and to be honest, I'd pay a lot more if I had to. Oh and as far as the copy protection goes, it was a good reminder of Far Cry in that department. It will not run if you have emulation software instaled in your computer so Nero 6 means no Doom 3. If you find that this is happening just set up a second user account (I set mine to limited) so you can play it. Kind of a shame really. The last two games I purchased were Far Cry and Doom 3 and I can't play neither of them without a second user account! Not a big loss but a damn pain in the butt nonetheless. |
