Go for Planscape: Torment. One of the best games out there!

lol, just because it isnt set in the middle-ages sort of time with swords and bows(though technically, it does have swords...), doesnt make it non-fantasy. Its just sort of sci-fi fantasy.

I'd agree with the suggestions to try Planescape: Torment. A fantastic game!

Another one I'd recommend is Arcanum - it's semi fantasy/magic and semi industrial/tech based, the character development options are fantastic, and the world is huge with one major plotline and lots of side quests. The game is never identical twice as some quests/party recruits/parts of the plot are based on how you develop your character. It's a top down view point & click style RPG rather like BG1 and 2, the graphics aren't fantastic but the gameplay and scope more than make up for that. Combat can be either real time, turn based, or fast turn based (I recommend fast turn based for optimum combat strategy without being bogged down with the details of every sword swing/gunshot).

Well.. I should get myself both Arcanum and PS:T then, because I haven't played both yet.. Same goes for the Legacy of Kane series (Soul Reaver and such), Fallout and Deus Ex though

*Ahem* He mentioned that he had finished Arcanum. Jade Empire is only developed for consoles for the time being. I would loved to have it IF/WHEN it is released for PC.

I would suggest SW: KoTOR instead. Great interactions, good story and nice selection of party members. Plus, playing as a Jedi rocks.
