There's no way I can pick just one, so here goes:
(these are in order of their release, not necessarily order of preference) Alternate Reality: The Dungeon Bard's Tale 3: The Thief of Fate Dragon Wars Ishar 2: Messengers of Doom Wizardry 8 (I didn't complete it yet, but it's making an excellent first impression.)

Planescape Torment
BG serie Fallout 1&2 Morrowind Are probably about the best ones. I don't consider games with RPG implements to be RPG's but I enjoyed Diablo 1&2 immensly, and if they do Diablo 3 without the original people, perhaps more of an RPG is waht will happen. But high up on the wish list is that Blizzard would make a single player game for World of Warcraft.

MM6-7 (playing the MM6 peasant game right now), Wizards and Warriors, and Wiz 8, for the moment. MM8 and MM9 were enjoyable, but not as much as 6 and 7.
From days gone by, Bard's Tale was a favorite series, and I still get some goosebumps from MM1 (from almost 20 years ago now). Those were the days... The important things for me are gameplay and mind usage -- riddles, puzzles, quests that require you to figure things out, and so on. And the more quests the better... especially if it almost makes me forget about the mainline quest. I truly despise "errand boy" quests, like the hair quest in MM9 -- walk out of the city into a cave and pick up a hair from a hairbrush. No combat, no challenge, no prerequisite additional deeds that must be accomplished... what did that really add to the game? Graphics and the like don't matter as much to me. I'm not into seeing the best video display and ranking cutscenes and the like. If I notice them, in fact, I think they've then failed, because they've gotten in the way of the story.

It is BG2-SoA by far.
It's the masterpiece of the BG series IMHO
