There's not much to recommend. If you want to play a deamon hunter in the single player campaign, you'll have to wait until you've finished the campaigns for all races but the night elves, and are halfway through that one.
In multiplayer and on random maps, though, it's not a bad choice of hero (although I prefer the keeper of the grove for my first hero).

I personally prefer Mountain Kings to any other hero. Their avatar ability rocks! Too bad that in the single player campaign you don't get to use the Mountain King that much.

Yeah, of all the ones to have you follow, a paladin?? I've never made one of those in a game.

Yeah Arthas' really annoyed me. The paladin class wasn't as great as it could have been. The most annoying part is that the death knight is almost identical to the paladin so you have to use the same hero for 2 campaigns.

Actually, my friend loves the Paladin, and he uses it to terrifying effect. Imagine 12 Militia, 12 Footmen, an Arch-Mage and a Paladin establishing two sub-bases before the second day dawns.

Needless to say... it was KO for his opponents because they simply could not keep up with his unit production. Remember... the Paladin boosts the men around him( Devotion Aura), so when you have a swarm( or play in teams), it is a very good idea to have him around. Not to mention that he is virtually impossible to kill( Divine Shield).

The Mountain King has his uses, and he is the Anti-Hero Hero, but do not knock off the Paladin so soon.

As for box-art, it definitely has to be the Night Elves.

Yes, and yes.

Remember to install the latest patch too! Then you can customise the difficulty level of your enemy too( in the custom games), among other fixes like unit balance.

Every race has three heroes. You can train any or all of them at the altar, in the order of your choice. So yes, you can choose which hero(es) you'll have. Alternatively, you can start the game with a random hero, which means you won't have to train that first character but the same goes for the opposition. You will get to choose second and third ones as normal.
