I personally would have used an icon of a dog or something , and made it a quick item , rather like that spider amulet that has a once per day use to summon a giant spider ?
A weapon that summons is...kewl..but if it's not do-able don't sweat it. Work with the game engine , not against it, and you'll avoid problems. Make the weapon something that returns to your hand and it's already pretty cool to begin with. Make it Monster-X must save at -4 or be destroyed and it's really cool (shades of the Alzar Axe or Mace of Disruption or Rod of Smiting !)

Yes, but going against the engine is what I want. The best way to learn something is th push yourself to the limit.
