The Price of Vengeance (open to all )

Dantes smiles at the hunter's offer, and casually says "I'de prefer by air." Dantes gestures toward the stable and when the the hunter looks he sees 2 saddled pegasus walking being led toward them by the stable keeper. "Come let us ride", said Dantes mounting one of the animals.

"My , my arent you full of suprises Dantes." Andrys quiped." give me a second to see about my things."

The Hunter gathered his weapons,armor and gear from the coach then had a stable boy push it over to the side of the inn.

"Watch this!" Andrys exlaimed to Dantes as he called upon his elemental powers to sheath his coach in a web of stone that grew up around it out of the earth. "That should keep the curious out while we are gone. Now let us be off , we have monsters to hunt."

The two soared high into the air on the backs of the pegasus, and in no time they could tell they were in the area of effect of the demon. The land from a mile out from the base of the mountains looked like it was dying. the few trees that were alive were withered and hunched looking like they fought their way up through soil as hard as stone, and graps for what sunlight shone through a sky filled with black clouds. The land was covered in a black ash, and even the rivers once the clearest water, now ran black with sludge. The whole area stank of death and decay. They knew that this demon must be stopped at all costs, and they knew that this task was not going to be easy. "This is no normal tanar'i. this msut be ademon of immense power to be able to affect the entire land like this. What could be the source of its power? and how can we stop it once we find it?" Dantes asked these questions not really expecting a response, and the mortified look on Andrys' face said he was not going to be getting one soon. They flew all over the mountains looking for where the creature might have its lair, and naught was to be seen but death. Dead and dying animals lay all along the mountain. Hideous legions and growths all over their bodies. The adventurers found a number of caves where the creature could be lurking, and they decided to investigate several of them the following morning, after making camp for the night. They decided to discuss where they thought the beast might be hiding. there were 3 caves big enough to hold the creaute. one was on the north face, it was very difficult to get to on foot. the other was on a ledge high on the west face of the mountain, which would also be very difficult a climb. The final location was on the South face and it was deep in a crevaise very near the summit. "so which of these locations do you think we should check out first?" Dantes asked between puffs on his pipe

As Andrys looked at the map of the mountains that they had and decided they should start at the top of the mountain.

"Lets head to the crater at the top , here."Andrys pointed."That way we can make out way down through the mountain, possibly from the inside."

Before Dantes could answer there was a scratching sound just outside the camp fires light.

"I think we might have some company."The Hunter said, then he extended his hand towards the campfire and whispered something. As soon as the last sylable left Andrys lips a collumn of fire roard out of the campfire towards where the noise came from , but there was nothing there.

"I coulnt have missed , I never miss !!"The Hunter exclaimed." I know there was something there!!"

Andrys went for his pack meaning to get his armor out when their camp was invaded by a nightmare brought to life. The creature scattered the campfire with its charge, plungeing everything into a flickering half light. From what could be seen , the monster had 4 legs that ended in strong claws,a blunt reptilian snout and a bundle of tentacles sprouting from its back. Andrys yanked his morning star from the hangers holding it on his pack.He felt the rush of strength the emense weapon granted as soon as he had it freed.

"Dantes to arms!! If you have any way to brighten things up I suggest you do it NOW !!" Andrys shouted

THe Hunter shifted to a defensive stance with his morning star extended out in front of him.He used his powers to feel for the remenants of the fire. His intention was to cause all of the scattered embers to flare up and give a little more light, just in case , and also possibly burn this hell spawned demon. The creature eyed both Andres and Dantes as it let out a battle roar!!

There was a split second of indecision, indescernable to anyone unaccustomed to Dantes, while he decided whether he should cast a spell or physically attack the creature. Dantes eyes flashing as he rushes the creature, katana sliding out of its sheath and biting into the creature, before it eyes even recognized the attack, from the shadowy form. Several tentacles fall to the groud in a pool of blackened sickly blood. The creature lets out a blood curtling roar, as it attempts to counterattack Dantes, but he dances out of the creatures reach as its harmlessly swings at empty air. Dantes backs behind Andrys as he begins the tracing of runes of power and uttering in a language that could only be the language of magic.

[Ar-Cunin]

Suddently an armored figure comes up behind the creture and proceeds to attack it with his sword - more tantacles are severed and the creture turns to face this new threat.

Background: from a family of paladins Vennkor was set on the path of knighthood at an early age. He soon realised that his fighting skills did not those of his fellows, so he came to rely his intelligens to overcome opposition. He also became a hunter of magical weapons that could bolster his chances in combat.

Note:
This character was created as an antithesis to those paladins that run around with 18 in all stats except 3 in INT. I know that I have created one of those.

OOC: I like the idea of an intelligent paladin. that is quite a bit of magical hardware there im sure it will come in handy. The hunter has to respond, in the thread before i can. i already took my turn this round.

Seeing the blur of motin that Dantes launched into , Andrys guessed that a mere light spell was beneath the mage, so he released the blocks on his power and let the element of fire roar forth into the embers. The flames made the creature jump and lit up the immedeate area. Then there was a squeal of armor and the smacking sound of steel meeting flesh. Checking to make sure that Dantes was still in the throes of his spell,The Hunter surmised that there must be someone else after this beast.Maybe the creature wasnt attacking him and Dantes as much as it was running from someone else. Never one to let an opportunity get away from him , Andrys took a mighty swing at the creatures back as it turned to meet its new attacker. The wet sound of rent flesh and broken bones was all Andrys needed to hear.

As Dantes finishes his spell. a bluish-green ray of light shoots from his fingertips connecting with the creature. As this beam hits the creature it completely stops moving, and held in place. Dantes then crooks his finger and the firepit is rebuilt and a strong fire is raging in it again casting a soft glow around the campsite. "Well I'm not completely sure what it is, but it sure is ugly." Dantes jests as he looks the creature over, noticing for the first time the 3rd person that had wandered into the campsite during the battle. "And who might you be?" Dantes asks while stepping backwards and fading into the shadows, preparing himself to cast another spell at this newcomer should the need arise.
OOC: Dantes always appears as just a shadow, as he is always wearing his cloak of shadows.

Sir Vennkor greets you fellow fighters. I recieved a message about a demon infestetion in this area, but the messenger had been badly wounded on the way so I got a late start. Than I came across a farm that had been razed, and I decided to follow the beast that had commited such an atrocity, seeing that I couldn't make the rendevous on time. It was lucky it decided to attack you, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to catch up to it before dawn.
