... just that there's this thing - thief is NOT always on the lower floor. In many cases he will not be around at all. Why to waste that chance?

In any case, you can actually get just few of them to attack at once, I have in cases got only the 'Stinky' and occasionally 'Stinky' and the dwarf. That does make it easier of course lateron to deal with the rest. And don't forget Yoshi's traps, those are real handy. If not in the fight then at least they can stop that thief dead cold when it tries to escape, just slap a trap or two near the stairs

In any case, there's few methods of doing it. I personally do not mess with the Difficulty setting during the game, I set it when I start the game and then go till the end..

SPOILER:

If in low lvl, get the thief guy charmed after silencing ALL the mages, and let the thief backstab the Dwarf. Then distract the Berserker with summons, then take the mage and his pet out first, then by the time the thief dies, kill the Dwarf. If the Berserker is finished with all ur critters, whack him to bits.

P.S. Don't make them hostile of let Korgan see the Dwarf! It will then be RUINED!!!!!!!!

You know that some of us are here to help you with BG2, not with your social handicaps. If you are so impatient why dont you contribute to some one elses posts. If you aren't far in the game then do something else, but don't complain to us for not helping you as quickly as we can. We do try our best.

Personally I would try to hide all of my guys around one of the walls, out of site of the bad dudes. With the spellcasters surrounded by the fighters, then lure each of them out, one-by-one. Kick them individually with spells and stuff, then lure the next out, etc... If you have to fight a few at a time concentrate all of your attacts against the most lethal (the most lethal being the one that would cause you the most heart ache). If someone you are attacking has a moral failure then leave him and go to someone else. Then finish them off when you kicked the still sane guys.

Chill dude

How us lowly solo spellcasters do it.

Cast Web, summon lovely spiders and pelt them with missile weapons.

Piece of cake.

Hi there, there is a really easy way of taking out these guys depending upon what you are playing. If you are a thief with decent 'hide in shadows' then infiltrate into the room and go by the mage in the bottom right corner (can also use Yoshimo to do the same, making two people by the mage). Before this however, summon up as many summoned creatures as possible (helps to have the Elf from the Circus Tent here as well as Jahira), and now that your invisible people have opened up the room so there is no black bits over it, move the summoned creatures into the left hand side of the room to cover the Dwarf and the guy up at the top left of the room. This should keep those two busy enough whilst you kill the rest. Then move your other people into the room just as your invisible thieves/thief 'backstab' the human mage (leave the familiar for now), hopefully doing enough damage to kill him in one outright. After he is dead then turn your attention to the familiar. As soon as the mage is dead make sure that your party has engaged the man in the top right by the door, whilst either Jaheria or any other cleric/mage/sorcerer casts dispell (or some other such magic) on the now warded familiar, thus dropping all of its defences allowing it to be swiftly killed by the thieves/thief that just killed the mage. After he is dead your thief/thieves can move up to help kill the guy in the top right with the rest of the party, thereby dropping three of the five enemies in about ten to twenty seconds. The even simpler way to do this though is if Jaheria has 'Pixie Dust' as this allows your entire party to move into covering positions. This was easy for me as I was playing a Neutral-Evil assassin, so I just killed them for the sake of their belongings. If you are playing a good-guy then obviously this method is not too nice. ;0) Also I had an advantage in that my character had played through Tales of the sword Coast and was level 10/11 when I tackled this problem. As another side note, Nymphs (summon woodland creature spell) make the better summoned creatures for this encounter, as their dominate ability can turn the enemy onto your side, meaning even less chance of death for your own people. Hope this has been of some use.

Two words! INSECT SWARM! A most excellent spell! It's like casting fear and miscast magic on everyone in the group with the added bonus of causing damage! It can win the fight for you when it comes to a group with spell casters. If you ditched Jaheira, your loss.

I assume youre talking about taking on the surly dwarf led party in the room above the lower rent in in the promenade. Early on in the game these guys knocked me around quite a bit. Assuming that youre not high enough level to know chaos spell(the single most helpful spell in the game for dealing with hordes of enemies in my opinion), one quickly cast, well placed fireball spell into the room will take out the two guys that really make this fight tough---the mage and the imp. If you get a little singed doing this, its ok... once theyre gone, it just becomes typical physical combat strategy...keep your fighters healed, hasted if possible...doom can be helpful cast against the dwarf. There will be a dissenter that tries to get away when his hitpoints are low...dont let him...hes got good loot.

A note...if youre playing a good party, you should know that my rep took a 4 point hit around this time, and I could only figure out it must have been from this fight...evidently barging in and attacking a party of people minding their own business must be an "evil" act---even if they are surly and do have it coming. You should do it anyways and get it back at the temple, as these guys have a lot of stuff thats really helpful early on in the game...including my early game favorite the ring of invisibility. But if youre low enough level, you should have some knock spells equiped, as your theives might have a little trouble with the lock in the room.

I guess that I fight this battle a bit differently than others. No real surprise. I do the normal party buffing spells before I even go up the stairs. I either turn my best tank invisible or stealth a theif and sneak up behind the mage, without moving any of my other characters.

When I'm ready to go, I whack the mage (he dies easily). I have my mage send in a Chaos spell into the room. That really keeps the bad guys off balance. (I love the Chaos spell against hoards. The emotion spell is also great.) I focus on killing the theif ASAP. I want his stuff and his XP and don't want him running away. I'll block the door with my party members, if necessary. My mage killing tank moves on to the familiar, who is usually confused. The berzerker dwark is usually the last enemy to go down.

I also don't usually go here until after I have my full party and I am confident that I'll take them.

Hrm, can anyone tell me what was on that thief that got away from me? =(

I went back to this spot when my thief was 11th lvl. By this time I had acquired some gold to buy some decent items from ribal. My favorite now is the arrow of piercing which I bought from someone else. I used that here.

Two strats I used....

First: Had Nalia, my bounty hunter, and yoshi go in to set traps around their walk paths. The booby traps you can throw, I threw right at the feet of the nme's. Now I moved both men downstairs. I cloak up Nalia. I pause to then set commands to have Jah entangle the room and have Nalia cloud kill the area where pookey and the mage are. Unpause, they cast and I run both girls downstairs. Normally, if you wait long enough, the mage, pookey and the berserker guy will die. Then get back upstairs and summon creatures. The arrows of piercing is what also helped to finish off the dwarf. The thief cloaked and ran from me.

Second time for fun, I went upstairs and buffed all my characters and hasted them. I summoned skeletons and animals. Had 5 of them. 3 near thief and two near mage. This time I set most of my guys near pookey and mage because pookey does confuse and it's annoying. I set all traps with Nalia, my rogue, and yoshi. I think I had Minsc near dwarf to tank some. After killing the mage and pookey, Jah entangled the room. THIEF left again!*sigh* Now it was a matter of using ranged weapons on berserker and dwarf. At lvl 11 with my rogue it seemed easier.

BTW, when you get spells that seem awesome to use and scribe, save beforehand and then try to scribe them. If you fail, reload. It saved me alot of cash.... but then again, I found Debug Mode=1 =(

Did someone say there was a ring of invisibility? Drats.

Well, good luck on it and have fun.

A much better way to do it is buying potions of genius and taking one or two (over 22 intel is about enough) - you'll be at 100% learn spells so never fail
