Heh, so now you know what kind of player I am: micro-management all the way! When in battle, I hit the space-bar every three seconds or so

I'd vote for the abjurer. Diviners are surprisingly potent when used correctly. SOA is set up in such a way that having the drop on your enemies with good intel makes a staggering difference in your ability to carve them into itsy bitsy chunks...

Does it have to be a kit, however? A straight cleric with average ability scores could be a challenge.

But definitely, if you're trying to make it hard on yourself, take the **very first** ability roll they give you, rather than hunting for the ones with high scores values. SOA is a much harder game when you're playing a mere mortal, rather than a character who'd be thrown out of most PnP campaigns as an obvious ability score cheat.

any part-wizard will have a very easy time, at least in soa... with staff of the magi and cloak of non-detection, you can pick your battles. even if you should chose a very restrictive specialist wizard with intelligence 9, the game will be easy to finish... however, you might find it challenging to do all the quests available.
if the restrictions are as crippling as they sound, i´d probably say wizardslayer - the beastmasters restrictions sound worse than they are: there are very decent clubs available in the game, and fairly early on, they have access to all the ranged weapons, summoned animals are very helpful in a solo game and, most important of all, they have decent stealth.
any class with stealth shouldn´t have too much trouble finishing the game, and since clerics can cast prodigious amounts of sanctuaries and barbarians can run away too well, that leaves the fighter class.
berserkers and the true class don´t have enough crippling drawbacks so pick one of kensai and wizardslayer
i finished the game with a kensai with minimum stats but wouldn´t recommend it to anyone - not only is it difficult but it is also slightly boring.

try a cavalier, its a fighter and cleric(half cleric) in one i guess it's the best kit to use(for my own opinion).

My vote is definitely for the wizardslayer as the weakest kit to go through the game with. Grandmastery in weapons is not as strong as in the pnp game, and you can only magic items if they are weapons and armor. The magic resistance is nice, but it is not until ToB that it gets into the levels where it makes a huge difference. If you are able to hit a wizard, then you are disrupting his spells; the spell failure power has never been terribly advantageous in my mind, at least soloing. Now, in a party, this allows you to switch opponents after a few hits, leaving the mage vulnerable due to spell casting failure. But is still a hard ride anyway.
