I don't think there's an answer to this question that will work the same for every party. I usually play with a bishop who doesn't use any spell picks at the beginning, which means I really won't have any idea how they'll do at least until Arnika. Some characters will be extremely weak against Gregor simply because they don't have even a remotely good weapon yet. Nonetheless, if you're relying less on magic and more on melee, Gregor may still be a reasonable test. Also, alot depends on your knowledge and experience in developing your characters. The party I abandoned at the Rift due to poor development actually had no trouble with Gregor. How was I to know early on that senses would be important for a ranger? LOL! So it seems to me that how and when you can test your party depends alot on the characters you play and your style of developing them.

The ratkin tree does it for me. If I can get the breeders and get out alive from the goons and archers who follow I know The party will be able to survive anything.

I wonder if anybody actually uses the replace 1 (or several) character option. Personally I just start over completely. It's ridiculous how many times I played the monastary.

1)At what level do you know a party will work, and when it just doesn't.

I guess after level 5 if you keep getting creamed by monsters of equal or lower level then you probably pack up and go home

2)When do you know it's going to be a GREAT PARTY?

when the computer keeps sending progressively harder monsters and you wipe them.

3)Some parties really take awhile to get started, at what stage go you move on to the next IDEA?

Usually after seeing that guy with a sycthe 2-3 times in a row.

I replaced two characters when I was 13th level. They gainned levels fast enough to help them survive. It was a bishop and sam.
