Big Good Weapon Spoiler For Wiz-7:

Sell the Amulet of Life form the beginner dungeon to the black-market armorer, then when you release Cpt Beauregard chase him around and buy all the Spear +2's you can wield. (he usually heads north within New City). You can retry the jail entrance until there's only one Trooper there.

You can also say 'sacrament' to get to the Legend map and the good Fountain right away--you don't have to wait until you know to say it.

Scatter: If you look closer at the drop charts there are level requirements and % drops.
With Baron Eglunds ghost the diamond eyes IS NOT droppable until you get to at least level 31, then its only a 6% chance. pretty slim pickings.

oh. I knew that about the chest that can have DE, but not the Baron. I'm never L31 except the one i went for over 50 with. (i usually finish in the high teens with 2 or more and low 20's with a solo)

I just thought the mobs never had level switches.

Scatter, using Win 98 SE for Wiz Gold (from the Ultimate Wizardry Archives collection). Trying to avoid XP as long as possible. I also have Wiz 7 and Wiz Gold on my old 40 MHz using Win 3.1 (which also let's me play Dune 2 and Betrayal at Krondor in DOS). Wiz Gold is almost too slow on that old computer and too fast for some important messages on the 800 MHz, but Wiz 7 is fine in DOS on the 40 MHz. I think I have a copy of the utility moslo' (sp?) somewhere but am not using it to slow the game.

In XP you need to right-click on the installed Icon, and set 'Compatibility' to WIN98 - otherwise it can misbehave very badly (especially if I hit whatever keys make it minimize [w/o WIN98 compatibility indicated], the sound continues, but the graphics never come back and I cannot even 'Save' - only can kill the game with task manager [or reboot]).

Works very well once compatibility is indicated, I also like to disable the darn 'Fastfind' XP task, which can cause 'swapping' delays, even with 512Mb - and even causes noticable delays as it takes it's I/O 'notes' on a PC with 1024 Mb...

When I accidentally 'minimize' Wiz 8 and WIN98 Compatibility is indicated, simply click on it to get right back where I was (I play on WIN98 AMD Duron 450Mz, XP PC's: Celeron 2Gz, P4 3.06Gz, and AMD64 3000+ Laptop). There are some other games I need to do this with as well...

Thanks! I 'll refer to your notes on the next upgrade. I think my version of Win 98SE is on its last legs due to corruption from invading adware/spyware. I can re-install Win but that stuff is very hard to remove without paying for a utility (some of which have caused the stability problem!!).
