Bard Tip Post

Blade has always been one of my favorite classes, and Haer Dalis is nothing to sneeze at IMO. The HLAs that bards get access to really improve Blades, with spike traps and improved songs, hes a nice addition to the party... If you don't have ToB its a bit more difficult, but the MMM strategy, and others make up for his lack of con...

I liked to have him memorize support spells, since if he isn't casting, he can be fighting, unlike some of the other spell casters in the game. His proficiency in short swords is not to be overlooked... Just take away those stupid blades he has, and get him something good. The Short Sword of Mask and Cutthroat come to mind... In ToB if you want to crank his attacks per round try adding some scimitar proficency to him, grabbing Use Any Item, Belm and the scarlet brotherhood ninja-to. Top with tensers and offensive spin.

Hes really a underrated character, and is just so helpful when you get into ToB.

Tancred: "Haer'Dalis' problem, I've often thought, is this. He's very hard to use. He's a weak character that is good at fighting, a fundamental paradox. He has the damage dealing qualities of a wild tiger coupled with the damage resisting qualities of a delicate china teacup. Haer'Dalis users have to constantly reposition and reorder him in order for him to maximise his killing potential and keep him out of trouble. He can handle numerous, weaker foes, but against a single, large, heavily-armoured and powerful creature Haer tends to, erm, die. If Haer DOES get attacked, swallow your pride and make him run away. His offensive spin is very useful for this - the defensive spin is less useful, as there's still the chance that the enemy will still penetrate Haer's defences and kill him while he's rooted to the spot. Boots of Speed are very useful for him, too."
Karnas: "As a secondary mage, Haer'D can either use his spells to boost his fighting capabilities - haste, stoneskin, even Tenser's Tansformation at high levels - or have him be the character who uses all the necessary spells so your REAL mages can carry some more magical death-dealing spellcraft. Keeping Haer at the back is an idea - have him protect your even weedier wizards while using his own feeble but nevertheless available cantrips..."
T: "If you want to get the best out of Haer'Dalis, my advice is this... micromanage him for best effect -"
K: "And never sell those wands of ressurection - you'll need them to put his shattered corpse back together time and time again until you get the hang of him!"

Tancred and Karnas

Back with a vengeance

A lil more pro Haer Dalis commentary...

He has 2 stars in Longsword and Shortsword, where normally blades cannot attain those levels.

He also has some nice resistances, a little bit in almost every area... Those will help offset the penalties of his 7 con.

His other stats aside from his Con are all good.

Lastly, he has a cool color scheme, like Jan Jansen

You are all forgetting something. The one and only reason I use him is because I am playing evil. Now there are all most zero choices for an evil party so chaotic neutral Haer Dalis is a must for evil parties.

Haer dalis (or whatever it is) is definately the worst Npc (along with all bards), becuase they can do a couple of things, but none of those things they can do good. Their poor at pick pocketing, they have a limited number of spells and aren't good as warriors. I think using imoen is much better than haer dallis (and all other bards) because she has very good spell capabilities and good theiving skills in useful areas such as finding/disarming traps.
