It's here, called the "combat speed enhancer":

Wizardry 8 is a pretty good game, well worth the time and purchase. It doesn't stack up to any of the Black Isle games but it is a lot more enjoyable and tolerable than some of the crap RPGs you can find on the consoles.

By the way, if anyone has a ftp server or knows of someone who does and has the Wizardry 8 game, please let me know.

Annheiser, I certainly hope you aren't asking for a hacked copy of the game. That is strictly against the Ironworks ToS.

...and a product of this QUALITY deserves to be purchased!

Besides, software piracy is a crime, point-blank.

Yeah I remember the battle in rapax castle where I took on the entire castle in one great battle. I was engaging about 12 groups of Rapax of some kind or another,... the annoying thing was that I had to keep the stupid armorer alive too.

I played the game about a year ago (long before the speed fix I guess) I found it very enjoyable character creation- and developmentwise, but I did not like the mix of Technology with this Fantasy RPG.

Hmm, if one of your files is corrupt, then maybe you should just send an e-mail to someone. Try looking for an e-mail adress at www.wizardry8.com.

Mostly these large battles happen just after the Monestary, for inexperienced players. Arnika road is tough, and those new to the game often run bravely into too many battles with too many enemies at once. One should not be fighting so many enemies at the same time and the game does not deal with this strategic mistake gracefully, making combat unusually long, boring and disheartening. Yes I know it is unavoidable at that point... the mistakes are earlier. Some key large battles later in the game cannot be avoided, but tactics apply to movement and grand strategy as well as combat itself.

Even my friend who is a veteran gamer ran into this and quickly gave up on the game. By the time you run into 27 enemies at once, early in the game, you would need to patience of a saint to just continue (or at least the cool speed up utility that Gimli provided the link for). With so many enemies at every turn: maybe even magic casters and their elementals, Piercer Modeis and the ever-annoying Crimson Poppies, it seems like you are doomed... and you are.

I also ran into this, put the game aside for a couple months, but then returned to it, and I'm glad I did.

There are three types of "power" in the game, (1) level and attributes, (2) skills, and (3) equipment (including found/purchased spells). If your skills or equipment are ahead of your level, no problem, but if either of these are weak, and level is high, watch out. The monsters you face go up with your party's level, and the spells you know or equipment you have has no effect on this. Skills also go up with use and level but equipment can only be found, purchased or stolen.

This weakness, if too much time is spent in the Monestary or Arnika road, means lots of resting between battles, which regenerates even more monsters, driving you to higher levels in defeating them. Then even more, higher level monsters are generated, you are forced to face several groups at once and... slow battles result. This is not an instant error, but builds slowly over time. Mostly this is critical at expert level, but can be a problem even at normal. There is plenty of time to be thorough in the Monestary, but not to dwell unnecessarily, raising level higher and higher, in areas already covered. Thats' it.

For those of you who have given up on this great game, I really do understand and you have every right to be... annoyed, but you are missing something exceptional. While admitting you are right in your criticism, I will say it does get better as your playing skills improve and it is well worth what it takes to get there.

Yes the combat can be a tad tedious but it is relatively easy to avoid when you are out in the open. Stay off the roads and be liberal with bombs, spells etc., the low level damage items are both cheap and easy to find.

In fact I can usually run through an area now days w/o fighting, if you are patient and take advantage that the only way baddies find you is through line of sight.

The other advice I would offer is to experiment with weaponry... see which give you the most damge per round as a party.

However, this game is fundamentally a hack-n-slash dungeon crawl, so if that is not your forte I can see you not liking it.

(However, Final Fantasy games are much much worse )

Normally, I would take this as a deep insult.

I had a problem with the sound.slf file that prevented copying from the CD. Manual install didn't work either. It came with a Cyclic Redundancy check error so I assumed it was the CD itself, being that I could install other games on it. I was hoping to avoid paying shipping and charges for a replacement CD from Canada so I came here and another board for help. I had almost forgotten that piracy runs rampant over the net and people, like yourself, are near borderline paranoid with people requesting material via internet.

The problem was solved anyway. I used a different PC in my home with a different CD-RW drive and had it copied there. Then uploaded via network to the PC I want it in.
