So, one more question: Do you have to be a Ranger to enjoy the sleek feel of a 3Xx-bow between your appendiges? Or , more politely: Who all gets to use Tripleshot Crossbows anyway?
In my party, Lord could use it, and samurai couldn't.
But i run through many many bolts very fast.

After a while, i switched back to bow or xbow with extra critical chance with him. I think for all classes except ranger the crtiical cance is as valuable as an extra shot or two.
(Due to initiative modifiers, the triple xbow often grants only one more shot than a strong or great bow.

Is there a way to get a doubleshot or tripleshot x-bow without having a gadgeteer in the party?

Yah, there's a Gad RPC you can recruit, starts with only 35 Engineering; if you just give him the practise gadgets and work it up to 75 the boring way, you can do it in a couple of game days without ever leaving his space, just bring enough Light Crossbows.

He's in the Trynton tree, he'll make you go kill some big ratts before you can recruit him, there's threads about them in here.

To me I think 3xbow is good for training (building up bow & long range skills) and I find fighter is best suit to use this bow :
- fighter have better stamina than any other party member
- more depend on melee as long range is secondary. (save ammo)

EE for ranger is better than 3xbow as :
- +10 EE
- More chance of critical hit
- If the ranger is fast enough(Snake Speed, was it?) he/she can fire 2-3 round per time and twice per turn. Isn't that nice...

Well, this is kewl. I get Engineering points for merging x-bows! Too bad there aren't more of them, they could do for Gaddies what potion-mixing does for the Alchemizers.

Lately i've been finding that Doubleshot Crossbows are a nice compromise between lots o'damage and Stamina conservation.
Which is kewl, because i can have Madras make them for everybody as he is and dismiss him right away. The only thing left to compare now is the rates of fire of the other special bows...
Too bad Gad's can't merge Daggers and Slings...

I think the innate critical chance of the ranger (with maxed skills)is about the same as a weapon with 5-10% extra critical chance on it. Thus, i want many shots, to get many chances for these criticals.

And with the triple xbow, he can fire 2-3 times per combat round, and 3-4 shots per attack turn. Each with a (somehow lower) chance of a critical hit. Isn't that more nice?

Stamina can become a problem, if you don't pump up piety and vitality (and i didn't). But if you have a gadgeteer and/or a bard in your party (i had both), just cast 'rest all' from time to time. And ranger can use infinity helm with its extreme stamina regeneration.

Bows are really starting to impress me altogether. If you max Bow and Ranged Combat, you get TWO more attacks! Bow and Ranged are really easy to build, and they seem to increase faster than Close and your favorite Weapon. I've found myself working on shooting a lot first, because you can always shoot, but you can't always whack. And, even more importantly, you can do much more damage earlier in the game with doubleshooters and Hunter's Quarrels than with any Close weapon but BL. Just load up and turn off the Autoswap. You don't have to waste a round to reload if you put some ammo in the shooters' packs. Just open the inventory and put them from the pack into the hand.
The only drawback to not swapping weapons when the mobs get close is the loss of the shield AC.
Since everybody who can use a Crossbow can use a 3X, and Gads can make them all day (given a supply of Lt Xbows) there's no need to fight over them. Just remember: Str, Vit and Pie all contribute the same amount to Stamina.

If you know that you're not going to use a melee weapon, you can just put more ammo into your alternate secondary weapon slot. You will reload automatically, even between the second and third shot of a tripleshot crossbow. I used this for both my ranger (until I got the GS) and my gadgie. I got a lot of extra shots, and I didn't have to worry about opening up the inventory screen all the time.
