As with any games, your mileage will vary. For me it depends on what I'm in the mood for. My husband and I played Wiz8 till we both ascended, then picked up Dungeon Siege. I'm still playing it -- it's pretty, the fights are fast and furious, it has a 'just one more section then I'll stop' quality. He says he likes it, but he went back to his replay of Wiz 8, so I'm now ahead of him. Of course, I finished Diablo 1, after playing it each night till my hand was cramping, and he got bored long before finishing it. Diablo was a bit too clicky for me, I don't have the reflexs, and Baldur's Gate frustrating in its complexity, so this is a nice compromise. I think of it as Diablo meets Icewind Dale (NOT Baldur's Gate). I've not run into any bugs with the single player, I've heard of some with MP but haven't tried that yet. If Wiz 8 had a MP option it would be the perfect game, DS having MP gives it a bit more replayability then it would otherwise have.

Basically, if you want RP value, Dungeon Siege in no way stacks up anywhere near the games from Black Isle or Wizardry 8. However, if you're sick of UO or Diablo, this is yet another game which focuses more on what you can do to kill something than why you are doing it. For me it's another hack'n'slash game. Less stats. Less need for stat attention. More need to kill.
