This is just an observation I had when I converted my Ninja to Dual Wielding late in life. For a long time I was using Marial Arts as my melee attack form of choice. I decided to try weilding a nunchaku in my off hand instead. My skills at the time were
Dual Wield ~50 Martial Arts 80+ Mace & Flail 0 My Dex was fairly high as well as my strength with maxed speed and senses. I found that my attacks with the primary hand with martial arts were unaffected. I fully expected the attacks with the Nunchaku to miss most of the time but I was surprised that a majority of the time I was hitting. I believe some where in the manual it said that if you are dual wielding different weapons the primary skill that determines hitting is Dual Wield followed by individual weapon skills followed by Close Combat. For using a single weapon type the indvidual weapon skill is most important followed by Dual Wield followed by close combat. If this progression is correct then concentrating a Lord's level up points on Dual Wield plus one or both of the weapons should not impair his ability in any way. BTW - You do not have to have all your characters except for the Lord Defend to gain the skill points. If you do not use damaging spells, everyone can practice their weapon skills at the same time. |

Maskedfrog i know that "BUT" what i was talkign about is that 40-50 points (without putting points in at level up's) is alot of skill to be earning an there's no way you would get that skill just through fighting in say 10 level's, "UNLESS" you had *only* the lord attacking while the others didnt hit the npc's. Ever played a "solo" game? 1 character alone killing everything gains skill imp's at about a rate of 3 skill - 1 skill with a bigger group.

MaskedFrog,
As far as I can tell, students of the martial arts do not need dual wield (DW). My impression is that hands&feet do not count as weapons in the DW calculation. This is true whether you have nothing in both hands or put nunchakas or something in your second hand. If he throws stuff from both hands, then that ranged activity DW does enter the equation for that battle round.

Just my .02 worth on something stated at the beginning of this thread.
I recently finished the game and I have posted some of observations in a seperate thread, but one thing I came across that I found - not odd, but unexpected - was that the *sword* skill had very little to do with the damage that one of my characters was dealing out late in the game. I had a Rogue that from about level 10-20 was dual wielding the thieves daggers and doing decent damage. At level 21, just for the heck of it, I gave her Fang to use as primary. Her sword skill was about 8 at the time. Surprised the heck out of me when she started doing damage up in the 170-190 range per attack. Her dagger skill was quite high. CC was very high, being a rogue she had 100 SPD, 100 DEX and good snake-speed and reflex. So correct me if I'm wrong here, but t'was the other skills and not the *sword* skill that made her second only to my fighter in melee damage with a long blade....

As I understand it, weapon skills have absolutely nothing to do with damage, but rather with the chance to hit. Damage is determined by the weapon's damage rating, the Strength attribute and other factors like berserk, backstab or crits.

Sound like you all need to make a lizard lord and boosts melee skills and forget the samuri. rogues are good with the stileto blade and dagger but boost there speed and dex fast. my mage is better then my puny samuri and my mage has a skill in staff and melee around 9 and hits more off then my samuri which is around 70-90 in dual, sword(using fang) and melee and still cant hit puny creatures.

Snowblind:
Maybe your just working on your samurai wrong? I rarely miss with my Samurai during combat compared to a caster type.

OK, this is the thread I'd seen, I just didn't realize it was inactive the last couple of weeks now, and search didn't find it right away (so I started a new thread! Sorry about that!)
Apparently there are different sizes/weights of maces. My party happens to be IN Trynton right now, so we can get the "One Small Mace" from the Shaman, but what is a second one and where is it found? It seems to me there was a list floating around on some web site dedicated to Wiz 8 that had all spell books' various places to get, maybe another list somewhere has other stuff, like armor & weapons, at least for those that are generally "fixed" to a place/time, I mean. K.

can you dual-wield/berserk? I equipped my lord with Antone's sword, bloodlust, which lets you go berserk.. I equipped another sword in the secondary attack-slot.. Will he dual-wield/berserk? ... I've now converted him into a fighter.. didn't like the lord-character..
can a fighter/lord dual-wield/berserk? Do I have to use bloodlust? the damage is cack, and I have lots of other cool swords I would like to use.. fang for instance is kinda cool, I have a couple of those, and some others. |

I don't believe so. Bloodlust will allow you to berserk with that weapon only.
