Well I guess you can call the game non-linear but given the discussion you're having then it seems there's more than one way to force a player down a certain route ... make it too hard for him to do anything else

Glad to hear your visit to Nessie went swimmingly ... I'd have been VERY impressed if it had happened on dry land ... sorry, couldn't resist

Have you been ignoring your bishop's psionic school? Insanity is a psionic-only spell and you'll need at least 15 in Psionic to get it.

Bloodlust
great sword but not for a fighter
keep fighter with whatever weapon calss u trianed him with and use bllodlust with a samurai
they are great with the bloodlust fore more than half the game
they will do a shitload of hits
trust me im level 14 and my sam still does more damage than my fighter or any of my guys.

ohh also keep your fighter at berserk all the time and equip him with a bow
and downt worry bout wasting a turn in this game if u dont have an all range and magic party u need to rush up up to enemy most of the time, just like others had said have all ur buffs on and also use run not walk,u get there faster and some of ur guys still might have an attack.

WARNING!!!! This is NOT your typical simplified nintendo game...this is a HARD CORE RPG this game takes a LOT of work to win, starting with creating a party...I spent more than 5 hours creating my characters and still had to start over 4 times till I got a winning combo
