I personally love my Samurai and would not leave home without him. Right now he is level 10 wielding Bloodlust and a wakizashi. The wakizashi sucks and I am real tempted to ditch it but with blood lust I am getting 2 attacks a round with 2 to 3 swings for a good amout of damage. He is also starting to do critical hits as well.

I do not have a straight fighter to do a comparison but based on others posts, I suspect he is not doing as much damage. However, I just cannot resist the possibility of an Instant Kill. I have had some battles that were not looking good that all of a sudden started going my way when either my samurai, ninja, ranger, gadgeteer, Myles, or Vi got an instant kill.

As a note you do have to live through the samurai's lower levels but I have found that he is getting much better and I suspect he will only get better from here.

well i finally found bloodlust (unfortunately i tend to take non-criminal routes first) and the samurai is kicking some butt. at lvl 11 he is berserking twice a round but only at 3x. his lightning strike (before bloodlust) was at 4x. this leads me to believe that he no longer lightning strikes. berserk seems to override any lightning strike. is this correct? in that case he is still a wussy. i might buy him an extended weapon and stick him on the flank and let the little faerie ninja take his place. how sad. give bloodlust to my lord or something.
the one thing about the samurai that keeps me hopeful is that there might be some really kickbutt sam only items later (like the armor youve seen already)

Hi!

My brothers party is about lvl 25, and I can tell you, his samurai is the toughest in the party.
Far more effective than his fighter(with Excalibur!).
So keep your samurai, it will grow strong....

My Samuari weilds an enchanted katana and an enchanted wakazashi at this point in the game (has for awhile actually).
He wears the +9 (I think...could be plus 6, but it is not the "starter" set) Samuari gear and he rocks.
At level 15-16 his lightning strike started hitting 6x and he always makes timely criticals.
I just love to hear it when he makes an instant kill and responds with "That one will no longer trouble us!"

He's cool and I am keeping him.

How does a samurai doing 74 points of damage compare with that?

Well, I guess it doesn't compare with your fighter, then. However I have been steadily training my Samauri on spells, as well. While he doesn't nearly have as many spell points, it is an extra Heal, an extra Paralyze and Light spell per attack which is sometimes all it takes to turn the battle.

Now I agree that one Paralyze versus an extra 110 points of damage is probably not worth it. However I'm convinced that my Samauri will be worth it in higher levels. Also, perhaps I'm a purist (or just don't want to start over, more like it), but I feel like I want to stick with him.

Dan

P.S. That's what I love about this game; there are so many different ways to play it!

I have a Samurai in my party and she has the second highest number of kills next to my Mage. I do not have a pure fighter in the party and haven't missed him so far. My full party includes a Lord, Samurai, Ninja, Ranger, Priest and Mage. I have progressed through Trynton and have defeated the Breeders. All of the characters are level 9 and the Lord and Samurai both get two attacks with primary and one attack with secondary with only one swing per attack so far. The Ninja is really coming into her own and is getting three attacks a round with usually two swings per attack and is quickly climbing the kill charts and should soon be in first place. She also ends up with three attacks throwing per round with shurikens and is starting to do a lot more instant kills as her critical strike has gone past 60. I have so far avoided wielding any of the cursed weapons although the thought of putting Bloodlust on the Samurai has been tempting.

After just finishing the game, my Dracon Samaurai had over 100 kills more than anyone else in my party, including my pure fighter and pure spellcaster (psionic) Once I found the Bushido Blade and Enchanted Wakizashi, he was pretty much unstoppable. Just get speed and dex maxed as soon as possible, then focus on strenth and int. I have done over 300 damage in one round with just him (Ivory Blade, Enchanted Wakizashi) 6x lightning strike on a paralyzed opponent, 2x Wakizashi. He normally does 4 attack per round, two with each weapon, and I never use haste.
