If you guys want to move outside the stereotypic characters ( as Eddings indeed have a tendency to make his characters in different books remind you of the ones from the last book ) - THEN try the book called "Redemtion of Althalus" its a single volume and is not as deep as the other books ( being a single volume ) but it does not have the same kind of *Aww he reminds me of* moments as the other books.

On a sidenote: The Dreamers are okay - but compared to the rest of Eddings books they are a total fall through for me - I believe that his wife Leigh Eddings died while he was writing them and it seems to shine through in some of the character development.
