Personally speaking, I sit firmly on the 'Eowyn' side of the fence. She ammed her sword through the Witch-King's face, while Merry just kneecapped him - and then he vanished. It makes more sense from a dramatic/stroy point of view for Eowyn to do it, because that makes her very much the tragic heroine, wheras the Hobbits are mainly our 'eyes' in the book. But then, I am but one man. It deends who you speak to.

Ooooh guys. Hold your horses! Don't you think that 'the two towers' will be great, too? There are many big scenes in that movie: The ents and Isengart, The rise of the king of the rohirrim, helm's deep, kankra...I can't wait to see it all!!!

Think they'll show any battles in the Caverns of Helmsdeep? He only hints of Gimli's feats, but you get the impression there is something grander than Khazad Dum there.

I just recently finished reading the trilogy myself and at first when they got back to Gondor I was thinking 'man that was a crap ending' and I wasnt really satisfied, but the last part of the book is great, its a shame there wasnt ever a sequel to all of it, somethign about the new world, not middle earth, oh well one can only dream now

I think it's a different Glorfindel in FOTR. As far as the wings on a Balrog, I don't know that Tolkein ever mentioned it. I beleive they first appeared in a Brothers Hildebrandt Calendar drawing.</font>

But that doesn't stop Tolkien scholars the world over from claiming that that's not necessarily going to stop him appearing in Lord of the Rings... death seems quite malleable on occasion for heroes. Even the Ringwraiths are scared of him. '... caught betwee fire and water, and seeing an Elf-lord revealed in his wrath, they were dismayed... As for the Balrog's wings, Tolkien does mention it. Unfortunately, there's some doubt over whether the Balrog's 'wings' are indeed wings or just a part of its' shadow. There are dozens of people out there who could argue this all day. As for Gimli, I only know I've seen a picture; the great dwarf himself, smoking his pipe, sitting on an Uruk-Hai corpse (with his axe still embedded in its' skull!) surrounded by similar corpses... and one dismembered Uruk head. It's possibly the funniest picture I've ever seen... Go Gimli!

For the record, I agree that the prophecy about the King of the Nazgul was fulfilled by Eowyn.
I will be so disappointed if they don't show the Scouring of the Shire in the movie. That is in some ways more important than the destruction of the One Ring. The Shire is the symbol of all that is good and right and peaceful in the world. It must be cleansed and restored. I suppose they could get by but I just don't think the story has the same impact without it. You don't see how the so-called big important happenings in the world affected the little corner that is the Shire. The tragedy of the Shire being spoiled and the exultation when the 'ordinary' hobbits return to free their brethren! Sorry for being so philosophical
