Money-making tricks like this tick me off. "Hey, let's wait to release the best version of the movie so that all those unknowing dupes will buy the original and then ALSO buy the extended version!" Followed by a round of high-fives.
Somebody get me my bow...
I agree. I hastily bought the current version off of Amazon.com thinking that the November release would only have some extra commentary. Now it looks like it's a whole new movie! Oh well, I'm not all that upset. It's only costing me $17.97 to be able to watch LoTR *now* and as often as I like instead of waiting another 3 or 4 months. I'll probably buy the extended version when it comes out though... Looks like their little profit scheme is working

as i posted in another subject, i also purchased it right away. and like Arnabas i'll try to sell mine, but probably without success. (damn! i payed 30 bucks canadian for this! but then again, that's like 5 cents american, damn exchange rate... grrr...) HOW MUCH BETTER WILL THE BIG ONE BE? if it ain't much of a difference, screw it. i'm happy with mine anyway, it's got some cool special features.

Andrew, read above for the info on the extra stuff. It also shows a bit of what we're missing on the version we bought.

Well, I had advance knowledge of the fact that their was going to be two. That way, I could get them both.

Which I'm going to do.

On the extras disc on the version released now, they have a preview of the special edition, but what they tell you is pretty much what has already been said here.

So if you already bought it, put in disc two and take a look yourself. Or go to one of the LOTR websites, I'm sure one has detailed information.

I was to enraptured in the story as well, I failed to notice it, except in the hills scene where he's fighting with merry and pippin, I noticed he didn't have it. where the Horn of Gondor was split I believe that was represented in the book as well, the horn was broken while he was defendign the hobbits. I'll probably give my version to my brother as an early X-mas present when I pick up the longer version.

Well the Aug release has been selling out like hotcakes here.
The only place I know to get one is to go test-drive a Kia and get one free LOL.
I guess I'll be doing that this weekend if they still have any in stock LOL.
It will be nice to see the November release with all the extras.
My sympathy goes out to those of you who have paid for it and feel cheated. I would to.

The Extended version will have 4 DVD's, and based on the sales pitch in the current dvd (on the extras disk) there will be a LOT of extra's that aren't in the current version.

November - Extended version, December - The Two Towers...
I'm already losing sleep!

TFOTR was so good that i was blown completely away, and the cast is saying TTT is WAY better. Could be just salesmanship but it seems they hardly need to toot their own horn that way.

I'm already dreaming of the day I can watch all three movies in succession... and have a LOTR party!
