I'm going to be an oddball and say Treebeard.

Sauron!
Best Wizard, best Fighter. Can eat Gandalf, Legolas and the other goody-gooders for breakfast.

In the movie, I liked maybe Legolas best.
But my all-time favourite LotR-character, is Aragorn. No doubt for that.

In both the book and the film, I like Gimli and and Legolas the best. They are rock hard fighters who put others before themselves and never back down from a challenge. Aragon and Gandalf get all the credit for leading the Company, but I think Gimli and Legolas more than pull their share. They are the unsung heroes of the Fellowship.

One of my favourites was King Theoden, he fits the noble king catagory quite well (Well after Grima wormtongue was out of the picture). Next would have to be Legolas and Gimli, they make a great team.

P.S as much as I the film dissapointed me I did think that Sean Bean played an exceptionally good Boromir.

My vote goes to Gimli and Legolas in the book. The gandalf of the film.
