I've read 'fantasy' and sci fiction for *years* (and years and years)--but only just started playing the games. I mean, I've always role-played but never officially. (think of G'kar's story-telling only in character

I write, too. Started way-back-when when the library didn't get in books fast enough to suit me (really fast reader) and I needed *something* to do with my time as a kid to stay out of mischief. I've often wondered why, with all the talent and thought going into the creation of some characters, there haven't been any published works by gamers in general--even if it's only online for other gamers to read.

I read mostly fantasy books but sometimes I also read a science fiction novel, preferably by Arthur C. Clarke, he is quite skilled at writing science fiction.

I've read quite a number of Fantasy books, but there's still a lot for me to read as well. I'm working on that
I also write a bit, and some of it can be found here but I have yet to join the once upon a paper forum (too addicted to this one right now )

I started out volunteering in a library years ago when I was a teenager. I read their entire Science Fiction section at the time. Since I'm a trekkie, I've read hundreds of Star Trek books. I started reading fantasy novels after playing AD&D. I really enjoyed the Dragonlance novels.

Of course, I read the Wheel of Time books. These days, I've gotten this odd hunger for WWII books. It mostly comes from another game that I play called Combat Mission.

I do understand that "need to read" I also read quickly and truly abhor the tiny paperbacks that many fantasy books consist of. I would usually try to buy the entire series so I could be somewhat satisfied.

I just read the Shadows of Amn and TOB books. The second was mildly entertaining. I won't give away what happened in the books. I confess that the R.A. Salvatore books are like candy to me. I cannot put them down until finished and they end all too quickly for my tastes.

I read a LOT although it has gone down since I ran across IW. I used to be at 2 books per day, now I barely make one per week! I also write, although I generally am too lazy. I have written quite a bit of poetry, much of which can be found in the Once upon a paper forum (see my sig)
I love fantasy and some sci-fi, but fantasy mostly.

Actually the books Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, and Dragons of Spring Dawning were all influenced by in-game events that happened while they were gaming and working on the modules that were being written along with the books.

I've always been a huge fan of fantasy novels, which is probably what got me into gaming. RA Salvatore, Raymond E. Fiest, Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, and Eddings are some of my all time fav authors

Even though I like to read I never gotten into fantasy books until after I started playing BG1. And i played PnP games long before that. Usually the books I read were none fiction or Stephen King books

For me, I think that when I started playing rpgs I found myself looking more and more at those fantasy/sci-fi books in the bookstore! So far, my favorites are C.S. Friedman (the BEST!), Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan. I've been recommended Robin Hobb, so will be checking her books out too. Believe it or not, I have never read Lord of the Rings, but I DO have it ready to go, will read it once I get through the Goodkind series [img]smile.gif[/img]

I also like certain horror writers. The BEST in my opinion are anything written by Robert McCammon, hands down (although he doesn't write anymore, seems to have dropped off the face of the planet, no books, no website, nada...waaa) . Others I read are Brian Lumley (incredible imagination this guy has), Stephen King and Anne Rice. [img]smile.gif[/img]

While I haven't written down any D&D stories from any gaming sessions, I have written several senarios for the RPGA to run at conventions. Though I haven't written any recently.

Valley of Mists was one of them.

I also have the first chapter of a fantasy novel based on D&D.

Anyone here enjoy Dean Koontz? 'Fear Nothing' and 'Sieze the Night' are wonderful. 'Sole Survivor' is as well.
