I love this series
Even the parts where it slowed down some. I felt like Jordan was trying to flesh the whole world out, not just those parts dealing immediately with the main characters. So I accepted the slow down appily and learned far more about the world as a whole.

Epona - did you hang in there? For me, the characters got easier to distinguish the more I read. Personally, I got so involved in the books that I kept notes. Plus there is a wonderful book out there (not very thick, but they made it very LARGE) that is like an expanded version of the 'dictionary' terms in the back of each book. It describes in more detail each main character and gives the history of each 'race'.

Edit: For anyone who has read WoT books, but DOESN'T know about the 'compendium' (for lack of a better word). It's titled "The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time" and you can get copies from Amazon.com (or the UK Amazon, I'm sure). Also, found this unexpected tidbit:

Alureth...Dragon friend of Breanna, Mage and Advisor in the Court of Lady Lioness

Co-Owner/Operator of the Evil Petting Zoo and devout member of the HADB clan.
Commander of the Dragon Fleet, IW Peacekeeping Force
Sublime Sister of the Illuminati - may the Light shine forever!
Second Historian and Scribe of IW. Mother Hen of IW.
Mage extraordinair, Pin-Up Girl for the OLD-COOTS
Magey-Wagey: performer in the Nekked Dancing Trio of the ORT.

Hopeless Romantic *sigh*

Thanks for posting that link, DragonMage!

That was very thorough.

I still dont see why people want him wind the series up to a close. Hell, he can keep writing this series till he dies of old age as far as I'm concerned.

Love the series also.

Just my 2.

I'd wish he would put the books out a little faster (currently avg. about every 2 years for the paper backs).

Yeah, its a great series. Little wonder that the books are on the NYT bestseller list for so long (and almost no fantasy books make it on the list).

Its intresting to note that the publishers were dumping the first half of the first book on the market (about when the 3rd book was in print) for FREE (ie. they new it was as addicitive as crack).

I'll put up a link to the complete WOT FAQ. It consists of an ungodly amount of info on every aspect of the series as well as speculation and theories about EVERYTHING. Basically the assembled knowledge of our newsgroup (which is a good enough newsgroup to be mentioned in the 'World of the WOT' book)
TOR's head honcho's stop in there to chat with us from time to time and RJ even enjoys reading it...he is sent an updated FAQ every few months that he makes comments about. I do have to warn anyone that hasn't read all of the books that it contains a lot of SPOILERS, although there are multiple versions of the FAQ to be found such as pre- Heart of Winter so that you won't be spoiled if that's the only one you haven't read. The FAQ is downloadable so you can read it whenever you'd like (pop it on a palm and take it with you! hehe)

So without further ado: http://www.linuxmafia.com/jordan/

The best thing WOT for free anywhere, I promise.

Ditto Has the paperback of Heart of Winter come out yet - I'm waaaaiting
My theory is that, while introducing new characters all the time, RJ has difficulties killing off the old characters, so that we have an INCREDIBLE amount of minor characters, all involved in subquests but I still LOVE it
